2007 Defender 90 Puma 2.4 PU Tonga Green

Grease nipple for Defender Pedal box

Good evening

To get a little less resistance in the clutch I would like to mount a grease nipple on the pedal box. They can be purchased in various online stores, but 20-25 pounds in shipping is just over the top when I don't need a large portion of scrap. Does anyone know the thread size so that it can be purchased at the local tractor dealer?

They are the same size as those that are on the Puma UJ’s.

Which on a 2 piece fitting this is the smaller one in the picture here:

There is some debate whether they are the same as the prop shaft, although on balance it is most likely, in which case they are 1/4" UNF. Also be aware that not all Puma shafts are drilled for a nipple (though most seem to be).

Thanks!

I got the two original propshafts in store because they were replaced with Gwyn Lewis propshafts.

I will see 1) if the shaft are actually drilled and 2) see if it will fit and measure it if others want to have a go not breaking the bank.

Definitely a 1/4 inch UNF, not an M6 , I tested both and the 1/4 UNF was the correct fit.

Great, I tested and its drilled out all right, then it just to passe the tractor supply to geet a nipple.

I suspect Yours is left hand drive. This may be an issue as the pivot pin ( if threaded - not all are) is threaded on the right hand side of the pedal box ( as you look at it standing in front of the vehicle) . It’s the same on a left hand drive vehicle which means there is very limited access due to the wing.

No need for a grease nipple , I give mine an occasional squirt of motorcycle chain lubricant - the solvent ensures penetration and once dry it doesn't drip. Also works on wiper spindles.
