It’s really worrying about the timing of this incident. It’s been going on for over a week now in a key time period for LR (76 plate cars in the UK and the new Defender). I hope they can get something fixed soon - and I hope customer data is safe, as well as those who work at LR. MY25.5 110 OCTA First Ed. P635

My Defender went in for a new key fob programming on 29 August. Should have been a one hour wait. After four hours they told me they have lost connection to JLR for software update (the hack was not known at the time) and gave me a Evoke courtesy car. I finally collected my car and returned the Evoke yesterday.

Suppliers laying workers off and costing JLR between £5M - £10M per day. It’s all very depressing. |

After reading the above BBC article, I feel very guilty for buying a LR product.
Not enough of the profit made from my purchase was invested in stopping this crisis. Or in GOOD customer service. |

Yes, top level management have a lot to answer for in allowing this to happen. Another sad story in the catalogue of disastrous decisions at JLR over the past few years and more. How often have we seen great concepts, designs and engineering in this country let down by p*ss poor leadership? 23.5MY 90 V8 Carpathian grey

The article says they made 2.5bio profit last year, it’s highest in a decade. That’s hardly as a result of poor decisions and p*ss poor leadership. Quite the contrary.

Acc to today’s Times, suppliers are being told that production may not restart until November….though JLR are denying that they have said this.

If this lasts into November LR's part supplies will likely be crippled for years.
Also, as stupid as this question sounds, will this shortage of cars make the value of the ones we own go up at all? MY25.5 110 OCTA First Ed. P635 |

Depends if you are buying or selling.
If you’re buying the dealer will tell you that there is a shortage of vehicles and whack up the price. If you are selling the dealer will tell you that nobody wants to buy them because they can’t get parts, then whack you on the trade in price. Hi peanutbob. Where did you hear this?
I have read reports that production won’t start before 24th Sept at the earliest but nothing confirmed. European airports troubled by another hack this weekend. I’m not sure where this is going really? Here is the world building bigger and better armed forces only to be taken down by three teenagers in their bedroom with a laptop. |

I'm not sure attacks of this magnitude are carried out by „three teenagers in their bedroom with a laptop“ though. More likely some state agencies… “A Land Rover immobilized is a moral defeat for the driver and bad publicity for the vehicle, […] it's up to you to do justice to your Land Rover!” - Land Rover Driving Technique. -- 2009 2.4 Puma Defender 90 SW 1979 Land Rover Series 3 88" |

The fact that your company has been crippled by a devastating cyberattack is not necessarily the result of " ![]() Today's computing and IT systems are incredibly complicated obviously. You can ensure that your IT processes are following all of the best industry practices - and then Sue from Accounts Payable gets spear-phished and ends up compromising the entire financial IT system. Or Frank was angry that he got only a 1% cost-of-living/merit increase this year, and decided to "accidentally" pop a vulnerable endpoint outside the firewall - woops! woopsies!!! Yes there are ways to mitigate damage when its perpetrated - but there is no perfect solution or ideal implementation of processes that will 100% work against every attack. 2022 Defender 110 SE P400 Tasman Blue Expedition and Cold weather package 2003 Hummer H1 P400 Firehouse Red 2008 Toyota FJ Cruiser |
