Changed the Gearbox oil, the change from 1st to 2nd was feeling notchy.
Thought it might be low on oil, removed the fill plug to see if I could find a level with a (bent over cabletie) dipstick. Oil started pouring out the filler plug. Drained and refilled with 2.2 Litres of fresh 75W90 GL4 gear oil. Afte measuring the oil in the drain pan, 3.5 Litres plus the lost drips. Garage that did the service must have topped up to the fill plug. Feels better now and I think one of the transmission noises is quieter. Stacey007 - Who’s washer jet is that, is it Optimil or another?
Cragster69 - Oh yes, over the top fill on the MT82 has those kind of effects. It’s a fiddle to fill with the precise amount but it’s well worth it to do so, in fact it’s the best way to go. _________ Today I bought a few bits and pieces from Opie Oils. Yesterday I fitted part of an upgrade, which I’m pleased with so far. ![]() ____/🇬🇧🇺🇸\____ _//*⛽️🛢️⚙️🧰*\\_ |

Cleaned the maf sensor, then attempted to get to the map sensor to clean that but couldn't undo that damn left hand bolt on the acoustic cover, it just kept spinning!
I recall having issues with that bolt on my old Discovery when trying to put the cover back on, the other two on right hand side were never a problem, what's so weird about that one?! ![]() 2002 Discovery 2 td5 GS (gone) 1994 Defender 90 300Tdi CSW (gone) |

Revisited the much delayed bush replacement project together with general underneath tidying/painting/dinitrol as there was a spell of dry weather. Whilst I am a seasoned ‘under estimator’ of the time taken for these jobs, I’ve outdone myself here

Gave the old girl new wing mirrors as a quick motorway blast on Sunday night (in between the fog) led to the nearside one going spontaneously into streamlined mode.
Put the design and development engineering adjusters on as well. 1995 300 Tdi Epsom Green- Slowly Turning into Keswick Green - It's a keeper. Wide Track Sankey- In bits- Gone to a new home M0XQS |

Following the Gearbox Oil change the gear change was improved but the movement of the lever was a bit crunchy at times.
After a search on here I read about removing the gearstick, cleaning out the old grease and regreasing. On first refitting it was worse, found this video and rechecked the steps, I had missed the bottom cage. ?si=dRyIrlxGifhrDD4N Removed and regreased, put it all back together correctly and the gear changes are definitely smoother Craig. “Don't believe everything you read on the internet.” ― Abraham Lincoln www.scotgrc.co.uk |

This fought me all the way. Best part of a day to get it off.
![]() Click image to enlarge ![]() Click image to enlarge Is there any reason the retaining bolts are soo long? Even with cleaning, thread file, heat, plus gas, tightening/untightening most of the nuts bind onto the bolt after coming loose. I get the nut around 1/2” down the bolt and end up sawing it off most times. ![]() Same with the radius arm pivot bolts ![]() 2003 D2 Td5 Black [SOLD] |

Good on you. It’s an awful job.
The bolts are long as you say and a fine thread I recall so they are a nightmare. Just think how good it will be when it’s all new and shiny! I’d recommend the Gwyn Lewis greasable ball joint if you haven’t already got one. |

It was from CSI parts, I used them years ago for light bezzels on my truck and they are great, Diffrence is 100% it now squirts water all over BOTH passenger and drivers side rather than just a dribble, even though I put the bypass piece into the standard jet previoulsy. Glad I did it before winter ![]() https://csiparts.company.site/products/Ult...p632097361 |

I’d fit the Gwyn Lewis greaseable but NOT the greaseable ADJUSTABLE one. It didn’t last long on mine, and is a PITA to adjust anyway. It’s not an adjust in place item. The non adjustable has been much better.
