Good luck with that
![]() I’m sure someone will have tried taking a vehicle manufacturer to court before in these kind of circumstances but I doubt you would get very far. But if you think you can, fill your boots ![]() |

Spoke to my dealer yesterday. They have a backup system they are using at the moment to register cars etc, and expect to be back up and running fully next week.

Regarding OTA updates bricking everyone's car - surely we have to approve any update before they are installed, so unless you install updates immediately after being prompted there should be ample time for any problems to be recognised and warnings to be sent out.
That's what I hope anyway! |

Looks like this may go on for a while. Some are suggesting October at the earliest.
Senior insiders have conceded the outage will take “a matter of weeks rather than days” to resolve, with a “long tail of work” needed even once systems are restored. https://bmmagazine.co.uk/in-business/jagua...ks-to-fix/ These little scroats that damage a business affecting the livelihoods of both the immediate workers and then all those of the suppliers, really are something. If any JLR software engineers start pulling stuff down from places like GitHub or getting Grok or Claude to write code, or another Vibe Coding monstrosity, watch out, they have more security back doors than a Jeffrey Epstein party. Jumped ship to reliability - Mitsubishi L200

Seems like production and other services are going to be out for the rest of September, with expectations that it’s going to need some kind of state support to keep the supply chain going.
There are many that will view this incident as being entitled people not being able to pick up their new gas guzzlers, and not consider the real story of the thousands of livelihoods on the line. It’s not a good situation. A non-pay-walled version of the fuller Times article can be found here. https://www.thesun.co.uk/motors/36607503/j...er-attack/ Disco 4 Owner - 110 on order |

All big businesses start with damage limitation ‘we are not aware of any customer data breaches’ and more or less every one of these cyber attacks usually ends up with personal data being taken.
As I said previously, big businesses don’t like spending money on IT. This might go on for weeks. One of the previous posters mentioned their dealer saying they were using a back up system and thought it would be over next week. I expect they are as much in the dark as what the customers are and know no more. |

I hope for JLR's sake they can get things up and running sooner than later.
It is no secret that they have been teetering on the edge of bankruptcy for quite some time and they were just about to turn the corner on that front, no small thanks to the mighty Defender. However, if they were to bleed money from this (in the millions per day!), something has to give and that can come in the form of quality cuts, feature cuts, increase in service cost, etc. Needless to say it can sink a brand and we will lose the Defender, not something anyone wants. |

For those interested, an interesting article from The Register about the incident and the measures taken by JLR:

Thanks, for the link to the interesting article on the nature of these hacks. It's a wake up call for more and more business models.
And yes, I think this sentiment underlines the seriousness of what has happened to an already financially struggling motor manufacturer. And while people p*** and moan about not getting enough discount etc., I think the bigger picture is that we hope they get things back on track track as quickly as possible so livelihoods aren't affected, (and I'll be the first to say that I don't really care for the main dealers and the times they have ripped me off one way or another with servicing etc.). But to those in manufacturing, the wider supply chain, and those businesses that support these. Disco 4 Owner - 110 on order |
