Blower control

I’ve tried to search for some answers before posting, so hopefully I’m not missing it. My fan blower switch got very stiff the other day and then just kind of let go and the blower stopped working. I took the dash off and there is slack in the cable when the switch is all the down (on). Has anyone had this issue, it seems like a very simple/mechanical operation. I’m not sure why the cable is having trouble feeding into the jacket. Here’s what I’ve tried so far…

Disconnected cable at the heater box. The arm and flap operate with no resistance.

Hit the cable with some lubricant from the top.

Pushed the cable into the jacket to make the blower fan work. No fuses blown, blower comes on when the cable is fed manually.

Has anyone had this before? I can order a new switch but it seems like there would be an easy solution.

Its not the “switch” mechanism. The cable encountered some resistance and got bent. You need to straighten it. That is your issue. Also press the spring lock washer thingy down tight (the wheel looking thing)

Good luck

Thanks, I’ll see what I can do. When it’s not attached it sits straight. I guess I might just need a new cable. I’ll check the washer too

The cable looks to be a stranded type wire, the control cable should be a solid cable - which is probably why the cable in the picture is bending as it slides into the cable tube. 1999 Defender TD5 110
