Defender Rear Camera - Mudstuff
Hi All, I was having a look at the Mudstuff website earlier and noticed there are 2 new reverse camera options. I was just wondering if anyone had fitted either of them?

I have a Stinger Heigh10 and a aftermarket camera fitted just below the number plate light. Its not the best as seems to pick up glare in the dark but its handy nevertheless.
I saw the 2 options below that look like they'd be pretty good if I were ever to upgrade at some point.

Finally took the plunge and bought the mud stuff camera recently. Was abit of a faff to fit as instructions were lacking. The part of the loom that connects to the reverse camera is at the head unit end so you need run the power supply from the reverse light forward as well as the camera wire.

But once that was sorted and I started using it it’s great! I had a cheap Chinese camera mounted in the number plate light bracket previously and it was pretty useless. This one is great you can even see if it’s clear when backing around a blind corner. 2015 Puma 2.2 110 XS Utility Station Wagon - 2024 - Present

I’ve also got a cheap camera and have a similar issue with visibility. What’s the view from this camera looks like?

And would you say it’s worth the extra over say a kenwood or alpine unit.

I would definitely recommend it. You cannot see the towbar of course but in every other aspect it’s so much better. 2015 Puma 2.2 110 XS Utility Station Wagon - 2024 - Present

Perfect thanks. Convinced me to get some pennies saved and get this with the stinger head unit.

Can you use the camera while driving in traffic? Or is it only available while in reverse?

If you set up the video cables correctly and you fit an e brake bypass you can, all of the cameras are quite generic.

Don’t skimp on the video signal cable quality, cheap ones are just that and not sheilded, that’s when you’ll get a poor picture quality regardless of if you have a high spec camera. Thumbs Up ____\We|Will|Win/___

I was thinking of wiring up so I could use in traffic. Any ideas on how I would wire it up?

I was wondering if I wired up a second power supply on a switch to the camera and Reverse trigger to activate the camera would that make the reverse light come on too? 2015 Puma 2.2 110 XS Utility Station Wagon - 2024 - Present

I've not got the Mud one (yet, it may happen if the current one dies). I just ran the power to it from a switch next to the head unit and switch it on when I feel the need. Quite often but not always when reversing and fairly frequently to keep an eye on my little trailer as apart from mini roundabouts it is invisible in all mirrors.

I suspect giving the camera a 2nd power feed would activate the reversing light without some added electronics. 1995 300 Tdi Epsom Green- Slowly Turning into Keswick Green - It's a keeper.

I'm thinking of doing the same. I can do basic wiring like installing the camera in the current set up and fitting the Stinger last year. However when I was looking at wiring it to a switch I read you should add a relay?, did you add when on your set up? 2015 Puma 2.2 110 XS Utility Station Wagon - 2024 - Present

I didn't put a relay in. They are very low in terms of power consumption so I just put in a 1amp iirc inline fuse. 1995 300 Tdi Epsom Green- Slowly Turning into Keswick Green - It's a keeper.
