Sad day. I am still in two minds. Although I am rarely using my Defender since I bought a 4x4 Camper Van, and also roof rack for our family car. I haven't checked the mileage since last MOT but it will be embarrasing!
I bought the Defender new in 2011. It was one of the very last 2.4's off the production line. It's in the rare colour "Orkney Grey". It started life as a County, which was what I wanted (avoiding ABS and A/C but adding full Leather myself). The 2.2 was already in the showrooms, but deciding I wanted the simpler non-DPF 2.4, I ended up speaking with a person in LR, who told me where the last 2.4's had been shipped to. I chased-around and eventually sourced this from a garage in Wales. ![]() Click image to enlarge (just FYI all these pics were taken TODAY!) I started a thread (as lots of us do) when I bought it but I have failed to maintain the thread - see https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic8679.html?highlight=gisby I got the Defender out of the garage this morning, gave her a wee clean, then drove to the local cricket ground to take some pics. Started first time. I really enjoyed being in her again! It's got some really good upgrades, whilst not being "chopped around". I can't remember drilling a single panel... When I bought the Defender in 2011. I spent a while on the phone to Zagato, and with his guidance spent 3 days with my compressor, piles of Dinitrol, and loads of ACF50. It was time and money well spent, as there's still no corrosion (he's been garaged all his life, and seldom seen winter roads). The chassis is like new: ![]() Click image to enlarge ![]() Click image to enlarge I previously owned a Disco2, and wanted Disco2 levels of ride, so it has a full set of Koni shocks, and to improve the choppy ride that USW's have, I also softened the rear suspension: https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic49065...oilsprings I'm going to try and list some of the main Upgrades: 1. Trucklite genuine LED headlights: ![]() Click image to enlarge 2. Nakatenanga Cruise Control 3. Nakatenanga Swing-Away Wheel Carrier: ![]() Click image to enlarge 4. Safari Equipe Bumperettes (can see in pic above) 5. Safari Equip rock and tree sliders: ![]() Click image to enlarge 6. Full LRI Leather interior: ![]() Click image to enlarge (rear seats have barely been sat on - no kids in the family!) ![]() Click image to enlarge 7. TGE panels and Naka load cover in the rear: ![]() Click image to enlarge and ![]() Click image to enlarge 8. Startech Steering Wheel (QR) and Security Boss: ![]() Click image to enlarge and ![]() Click image to enlarge 9. Tow bar and Electrics 10. Front bumper is a HD Galvanised ex-Military one. I added it when I did a DEF2 Highland Safari, as it has the recovery option. I painted it with POR15, but it's chipped off. I don't mind the look, but it would look a lot smarter with a coat of hammerite: ![]() Click image to enlarge Also has the genuine LR spot lights (wired on genuine LR harness) 11. Full LR floor mats 12. Naka Glove Box 13. Full NoiseKiller Kit, and also a load of additional DYNAMAT sound proofing - you can have a conversation at 65mph ![]() ![]() 14. SVX genuine OEM wheels (set 5, spare unused with brand new tyre). Tyres all have plenty of tread. two of the wheels have a lift in the laquer: ![]() Click image to enlarge ![]() Click image to enlarge It's been serviced annually, and wanted for nothing. I have a full service-kit waiting to do: ![]() Click image to enlarge In the box is a spare unused genuine VCV, after-market air filter, oil filter, genuine fuel filter, also a camshaft sensor and I think a MAF. All the oils for a full service. Incidentally I wrote the sticky about home maintenance: https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic8707.html also the sticky about the gearbox mod: https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic29132.html - hopefully you'll see that I do these jobs correctly. (see also https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic16066.html for fitting the Koni shocks) The other important stuff: Obviously one owner 65000 miles Loads of paperwork, original manuals, V5 in my name etc I'll be keeping the Reg, and putting it back to CV61SBY I have the OBD IID CONTROL device too for diagnostics £28k firm to include all extras (except cherished plate) and Original Parts where I have them More Pics taken today: ![]() Click image to enlarge Rivets always treated with ACF - no corrosion here, or on the hinges ![]() Click image to enlarge The sticker on the top right of the rear hides a small mark ![]() ![]() The mirror arms have both corroded (obv missed them with my ACF'ing) ![]() Click image to enlarge Under bonnet shot. Note it also has a genuine ProVent 200: ![]() Click image to enlarge Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's) Last edited by MartinK on 30th Jul 2025 2:50pm. I forgot to say (I am sure there will be a few of these!) - the LRI leather seats were ordered with HEATERS. I have the wiring loom but never installed it, so heated seats are available with a bit of install work

I'll also add, I think the battery is nearing EOL, I was thinking of replacing it. It's fine when the vehicle is in regular use, but if left for a few weeks, it struggles. I put the battery charger on for a couple of hours this morning because I had not run the Defender for a few weeks... Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's)

Just putting some answers to Questions I have recieved by PM:
The County (in 2011) had no air con, no ABS, and had basic fabric seats. This was the main difference to the XS at the time (the XS also had the Side Steps that rusted very quickly!). However the County did have (over the base model): Carpets Tinted glass (ever so slightly!) Electric Front Windows Central Locking Body-coloured Roof (base models had a white roof) In 2011, the XS had leather seats that were only part-leather, and a alcantara-type fabric in the middle. I went for the County because I wanted to build on the base specification myself. I wasn't bothered about aircon, being more of a window-down-in-summer guy. I wasn't bothered about Traction Control/ABS because I had intended to fit Ashcroft ATB's which for me was a better option, but I never actually needed to do this (for the mild green lanes I have done, the basic vehicle always had plenty of traction). Finally, not being a fan of part-leather seats, I bought a full-leather set from LRI. It does have a CheckTemp gauge fitted, but it can be occasionally temperamental! The Defender currently has a SONY head unit (radio, CD and MP3 player) on the stereo, I also have the original radio (which I think is just a radio without a CD option. I forgot to say this is "L1", so CHEAP ROAD TAX (about £325 IIRC) Defender "Puma" 2.4 110 County Utility (possibly the last of the 2.4's) |
