Lift pump Issue?
Hiya,

came to do the fuel filter on my first Landrover, a 300tdi defender today aswell as diagnose my sudden increase in black smoke and slight power loss + little tap.
Swapped the filter came to prime and the priming 'arm' on the lift pump is all flappy and loose (i tried turning the engine a bit as i have read there are high/low bits on the cam according to Mr Trailfitters videos) makes no difference.

Google suggests this could be the cause of the smoke if it's Censored ?
I'm going to change it but anything else i should look at?

Also I've been reading i need to 'shim' the lift pump (or can i use the old one if there is one)?

Hi James

The fuel filter will self bleed if you run it straight away and keep cranking when it cuts out.

For sudden black smoke I'd check the turbo/intercooler hoses haven't collapsed, and also the intercooler might need washing out. LR Workshop

Heya all,

Forgot to reply to this duh.
I changed the lift pump, set the valve clearances no difference.

My dad suggested remove the air filter id recently fitted, and boom that was it!
Not sure if it was a manufacturing error or what but the mahle filter was severely limiting airflow!
I have an aftermarket ITG one in there now and its much happier!
