okay thank you, the actuator should be movable by hand i am assuming?

With the circlip off the linkage should be so loose it feels like it’s disconnected

I had this happen in France. It was in injector. One of the injector solenoids had jammed open injecting masses of fuel into the engine.

That amount of oil in the intake pipework is not uncommon and is just downstream of the PCV return which suggests crankcase pressure.

Test the resistance of each injector and see whether any one seems out compared with the others

Thank you for the suggestion, i will look at this at the weekend. It made the diesel runaway happen for you as well?

I suspect it’s a faulty turbo actuator , or linkage to actuator sticking fully open when engine was running.

I think Blackwolf had something similar on his 2.4 a while back.

Interesting you have no DTC’s.

I doubt it is a faulty actuator, the engine would still respond to the throttle and would stop on the key if the actuator stuck on full boost.

In the absence of loads of oil in the intercooler my suspicion is a failed injector.

If failed injector, by which I assume stuck open, can this only happen with an engine that doesn’t have an electric fuel pump, or will it suck fuel through regardless?

I also assume that runaway due to a single failed injector is more likely to cause engine problems due to only a single cylinder getting overdosed with fuel?

Or this where the injector or injectors have been overdosing fuel, to a point that the engine is runs on its own oil due to it being massively overloaded with fuel (diesel)?

It was a long time ago but I've known of two engines that ran away on oil vapours from failed turbos..
Both disappeared in a cloud and both self destructed 😫but as i said don't know the full details ..
Neither would have had throttle bodies , so I'm curious in your case how the engine reacted to you switching it off.. was there any tendency to stop or not.. and how did you get it stalled..a full run away i imagine is frightening.. and usually terminal..
Ive had an engine do it briefly while been a bit over generous with brake cleaner on a sensor in the intake hose , and turning the key before the vapours cleared 😳🤣..it ran on even after switching off and i think that engine had a throttle body , but not sure if it was a mapped engine and maby not active..
