When you put the pliers on it, is it only that piece that spins, or the other pieces on the top too?

If it still keeps going round just try and lift it up and away it might be out of its threads but stuck on the top, then there is the ring just below, then the plastic one below that to the wing.
If I remember rightly the antenna comes out from under the wing, not up through it.

It could have got seized, underneath, and broke away from the casing internally.

If it’s still stuck, then though a pain you might have to sacrifice the antenna, and drill / carefully dremel grind it out from the centre at the top, taking care to protect surrounding paint.
The aim then would be to get it out without damaging the wing at all or bending it.

They are known to occasionally seize, so this could be what has happened.

If you are happy to sacrifice it, I’d extend the antenna, cut it off at its lowest then push it in.
If you’ve got a cone drill bit, drill out the centre top cap with it, then it should all come out.
It’s only really that top piece that holds it on, the rest is all below. _\Hennessey|Venom| F5/___

Thumbs Up

The more I think about it if you’ve loosened the retaining ring then it’s probably just stuck and may need a ‘whack.’

The lower clip won’t be stopping anything which is contrary to what I originally thought 🤪

Yes it does come out from underneath 👍

Yeah, that’s just a support clip, but worth knowing that it is there though. Thumbs Up _\Hennessey|Venom| F5/___

Another 10 minute simple job on a Defender that ends up taking hours, possibly days.....

Rolling with laughter

only photo I can find , but it doesn't show the underside of the wing , just the location of the antenna case in the clip..I think at the time I was more interested in the air intake on the inside of the wing..

good news lads.

Step 1 (failure): whackin it surprisingly didn't work
Step 2 (success): pry up the rubber gasket looking thing on top and snip it with cutters until I could cut it entirely, after which I could yank the gasket out with pliers. Bam, it fell down.

At this point, I'm still not sure what caused that stupid nut to be stuck but I am just going to move forward.

Well we all live and learn.

Glad you got it sorted.

The replacement looks splendid - but now you’ve lost your Defender height gauge…🤪

Thanks for sharing the outcome for the benefit of others.

Lovely Defender Thumbs Up

Thanks! I really should do a photoshoot moment and share it with the forum. I got this car from and old hunter and I had to a full interior strip and upgraded a lot. I am going for a OEM+ sort of setting with a 'more money than common sense' kinda attitude.

(not turning it into a KHAN monstrosity though, outside only has very minor cosmetic upgrades such as black grill instead of silver)

Glad that you managed to get it off, typical Puma style, these things can take longer than expected. Rolling Eyes

The new one looks good, I have the same I expect quite a lot of others do as well.
