Is this OK - Rear Differential Backlash
2014 90 Puma 2.2 - I replaced the halfshafts for LOF solid and found a lot of debris in the hub (https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic95141.html), so following forum advice i have just changed the wheel bearings.

When refitting the hub i checked the backlash in the diff as part of 'the clunk' chasing and felt approx 5-6mm of backlash in the rear differential, which may be normal, but got me wondering if this is OK. What are your thoughts on this.

The handbrake was on and I checked there was no movement in the propshafts when marking the disc

It’s difficult to say that way but I certainly wouldn’t be overly concerned with what you have. You would be better off testing your diff backlash with wheels on the ground and turning the diff input.

You always get some backlash, I seem to recall anything over about 10 degrees is a concern.
But don’t quote me exactly on that, it’s worth checking wheel bearings as well for any horizontal or vertical play while you are there.

I wouldn’t worry too much personally. _\Hennessey|Venom| F5/___
