TDCi DPF question

l know that engines such as the Defender TDCi don't like constant short journeys as it can't regenerate the DPF.

If l do short journeys between customers all day, but the engine is only off for maybe 30 minutes between journeys, will this still be a problem with the vehicle?

Basically the engine stays warm all day, l am at customer between 20-60 minutes.

Also would a 10 mile journey in city driving (maximum speed 40 mph) be sufficient to clean the DPF?

l ask because l have been offered a lovely 2015 TDCi 110 XS and am considering using it for business.

Active regens take about 15~20mins. The fact that the engine is still warm, its takes shorter time to reach temperature where it can start or resume an active regen quicker.

Mine only makes short journeys, I don’t have much options unless I convert it to an amphibian! 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

I can’t see it being an issue if the vehicle is in use all day. 2008 2.4 110 Utility Station Wagon XS.

The absence of a working DPF would be a MOT fail. So ok if you don’t use on the road, but not if you do.
However to pass an MOT all that is required is a visual inspection to see if a DPF is present . Therefore if someone were to remove the internals of the DPF, just leaving the outer shell looking as it were before, or replace the DPF with a new empty shell, then MAP the DPF out of the ECU ( as per some ROW configurations) then it would pass the MOT.

Have there actually been many 2.2 dpf issues? Seems to be the only LR product that doesn't really suffer problems? Cheers

I’ve never had any whatsoever, however my driving is generally country lanes , B roads and A roads of 20 plus minutes duration . I’ve never had an amber or red DPF light come up.

There have been a few owners reporting issues but that’s because they constantly undertake very short low speed journeys and rarely hit speeds of 50mph.

In essence, from what I’ve gleamed from the forum, it seems that the 2.2 only has DPF issues in extreme circumstances.

2.2 was the only LRE vehicle that we didn't have problems with Cheers

l guess the plan would be to see how it goes, and if it's a problem then do something about it.

l would like to leave the DPF in if possible as diesel particulates aren't good for you. Since l got rid of my Defender TD5 l've not had to use either of my inhalers.
l was in the Defender all day every day Monday-Friday.
l used to have to use the inhaler before l went on a bike ride or l would get out of breath.

But still be illegal.

Is it only a crime if you get caught? Its a moral question. As a society we have made certain choices and being part of that society most people agree you should follow the rules. You might not agree with them, but overall life is better in say the UK than say Russia, exactly because overall we have a stronger moral compass.

I stated the facts, what people choose to do is entirely their business.

As for morality. I subscribe to “let him without sin cast the first stone” so avoid making moral judgements on these particular things.

Mine is a MY12. I drive it 5km twice a day, 5 days a week, combined with a longer journey every weekend. Been doing that for the past 10yrs and never an issue with the DPF. Serviced and maintained religiously though.

Had mine from new in 2015. Now at 103000 miles as a daily driver with intermittent long distance. Never had an issue with the DPF. Oil changed every 5000 miles aswell 2015 90 XS Santorini Black
