We bought a new 90 CSW for £19,250 in 2006. We sold it at 40,000 miles in 2014 for £15,000. l replaced it with a 56,000 mile 2005 110 CSW which cost £14,000
l sold that in 2022 for £18,500 having taken the mileage up to 155,000

Are you sure it’s a 2.4 and not the 2.2 as the 2.4 was replaced as an engine in about 2012 ish?

From my point of view whilst the “old” defender was a great vehicle it was noisy, slow, uncomfortable and a poor long distance driver so beware of the “rose tinted” glasses effect Thumbs Up Gas, Grass Or Ass - Nobody Rides For Free

United Kingdom 2016 Defender 90 Puma 2.2 HT Corris Grey
I have a 90 Puma HT that whilst doesn't get used often has done some long distances like Newcastle to Gatwick in a day towing 2ton…..
Maybe not quite as ‘nice’ a place as my T5 LWB but is certainly not slow or noisy??

In the 1980's I had a V8 90 CSW. I remember it could only do about 100 miles on a tank of petrol so think I prefer my P300 110 which can do more like 400 miles to a tank full.

United Kingdom 2008 Defender 110 BMW M57 3.0 Diesel XS CSW Auto Santorini Black
I moved from a 2008 CSW to a new D300 110. I had it for a few months but never got attached to it and quickly realised that whilst it was a great car, I was never going to be able to enjoy it as much as I did the old 110.

Luckily I hadn’t sold my old 110 so I went back to that and sold the new Defender. Recently, to make the Puma a little easier to live with and because I had some engine and gearbox issues, I’ve dropped in a BMW M57 engine and 6 speed auto box. I can’t see me ever selling this now as it does all I need it to and more. (Until ULEZ comes in everywhere and I can’t drive it anymore!) 2008 Defender 110 XS SW - M57N2 / 8HP70X

I think this is where it’s important to decide on a conversion that’ll be ULEZ compliant. I believe the petrol (B57?) is compliant once registered? 2008 2.4 110 Utility Station Wagon XS.

England 2015 Defender 90 Puma 2.2 HT Santorini Black
My last old defender was a then new 2015 90 Urban Truck, it was really a third vehicle for the family.

I do regret selling it and would have another one tomorrow, as a weekend vehicle

Mind you I have been Defenderless since March 1st, as I part ex’d the hard top for an XS edition which has now been cancelled by JLR, as they have stopped building the 24 model!!! With no option of an XS in the more expensive 25my line up.

But as the OP asks yes I would definitely like to have another, great fun Cheers Simon

I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you

The "new" old Defender l have been offered as a swap for my 2022 Defender is actually a 2008 110 XS SW. lt's done under 5,000 miles.

Well, it's not exactly a swap, as some money would come my way as well, but after l pay tax on the sale of my 2022 Defender it ends up as pretty much an exchange.

The 2008 is the earlier 2.4 TDCi and reviews of that engine are mixed. Also it's only Euro 4 although it's classed as a car, so exempt from some of the LEZ's
Road tax is £700, effectively £60 per month.

Would I trade our P400 for an old Defender…. No, however we are thinking of possibly trading in
the wife’s 14 year old RRS for an ex Aussie Army LWB Perentie, they come with a 3.9 diesel from
Isuzu as standard.. looking at this when we get back from our Euro tour.. plenty available as well

Driven plenty of series 2’s in the Army.. so not giving up all the luxury yet another pommie bar steward down under

Was looking at a nice condition ex military Defender 90 yesterday. They're very basic but would be great as a second vehicle.

Learned to drive and passed my test in a SWB lightweight Airportable when based in Blandford,
the SWB (90ish) was more agile than the LWB utility, FFR etc I found, the Perentie though will be
a LWB yet another pommie bar steward down under

I recall there was a discussion here earlier about if you could show up for your driving test in a Series Land Rover. The conclusion was: probably no, even though it is a road worthy vehicle.

In most places in Europe you can only do the test in a driving school car with the dual peddles etc.

Just reading my old thread from a year ago!

l haven't swapped the new Defender for an old model, although my local LR specialist keeps tempting me with late model Puma XS 110's (they've currently got three in their showroom)

My 2022 Defender is still holding on to its value and has been completely trouble free. The Under 5,000 mile 2007 Defender 2.4 110 XS is actually still for sale, l almost pulled the trigger on it in December 2024 but l had an inspection done and the chassis doesn't look great. Well not for £40,000 anyway.

The tax implications of selling my 2022 Commercial aren't as bad as l thought. Will l ever swap it for another Puma? l don't know. l love the old Defender and will definitely have another one day that's for sure.

Pictures l was sent of the 5,000 mile 2007 Defender chassis.

I’d like to add a 90 truck cab or Hi Cap to the collection but not swap 😃

What was the question? Would you go back to an old Defender?

No, thanks!
