Excellent. Then yes. I will reinstate this with the rebuild.

Thanks so much.

Thanks.

In that case the spacers must be there for the lift and need to go.

Is that yours? Looks like a new car! Sterling work.

Sadly not mine, just one of the many reference photos I’ve collected when converting from tdi to V8. JB

I can never understand why Land Rover changed the tank cradle design on TD5/TDCI 90's from the NAS/50th set up? Perhaps they thought the rear antiroll mounts were not strong enough? But the cradle removal and refitting process on the later setup is brutal requiring much levering and bending of the cradle when the rear body is in place.[/i]

Hard to know, but my 50th went through them quite quickly. I think I fitted 2 genuine sets in 5 years. JB

Tanks out.
Brackets cut off.
Welds flattened down.

Now officially knackered!

Not too bad on the rust front. Just a bit of surface. Might need a new trailing arm mount bracket but will know when I’ve cleaned up.

For a red (which fades badly as a colour) you’d be much better taking it to an automotive paint supplier and getting it colour matched with the analyser machine that takes a bunch of images and matches the colour.

I have sent you a pm about a guy I remembered had parts.

It should be Portofino red, on Discoveries and similar ange Range Rovers it was called Arrow Red and Corallin Red.

Just looked it up and it’s code CUF 390. https://rimmerbros.com/Item--i-RTC5728VA

Although there is some sense in getting a colour match from the paint, I’d prefer to take the approach of cutting and polishing the red back to reveal the original colour and then matching the paint. As it’s a solid you can get the original paint dusted over and the whole car will look even and original. JB

I am following this thread with interest. Lucky find, and good work/progress.

It does seem that there once the original trailing arm chassis bracket, which is welded to the top of the chassis. Wonder if it was a LR modification. Seem a bit weak as they are, as the sidewall of the chassis is only 2mm plate. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

RAL doesn’t normally cross-refer to original factory paint colours.

You might find something close, but not the same.  1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

Looking at it. I’m going to have to fit new trailing arm brackets.
Looks like they were modified to accommodate the side tanks.

I can get the brackets easy enough.

Has anyone done it on here and have any pointers?
My welding is good but not sure if I want to weld such a safety critical structural part myself.
