i am probably going for the Alive software off for the EGR and be done with it. Did you blank yours too?

Mine's been running for around seven years and 150k miles with the EGR disabled in the map (BAS) and no blanking plate. Provided that the map completely disables the EGR and doesn't leave the cleaning cycle procedure, a blank should be unnecessary. If the EGR corrodes or somehow opens and then won't shut, a blanking plate will prevent problems.

I imagine that after this time my EGR has more crud in it than a smoker's lung and is completely gunged up and stuck solid!

It isn't urgently required but the idea of the blank is mainly a safeguard just in case the EGR leaks or is partically stuck open.
That is difficult to determine and won't always flag DTC's or illuminate the MIL.

Having said that, the probability is highly unlikely!
But seeing as I did actually have EGR issues, I wanted peace of mind and it is very easy to just slip the plate in.
You don't have to fully remove the bolts or gaskets, simply slip it in on the inlet side.
And tighten to Torque specified.

I agree it is not a bad idea, and gives peace of mind.

i have run a 2.4 with software EGR off since 67k miles, with no blank.

On this one i went for the Alive EGR off option (software) and fitted the blank - thank you for all advice on here, took 10mins or so and its tight but not too bad, no where as bad as its made out to be!

More importantly - no more rough idle since EGR off function! Very Happy

(although need a colder morning to be extra sure!) Cheers
