What has caused the head float?

The early (10p) engines were renown for head gaskets running standard. The 15P (circa 2002)engines should have metal dowels to stop the head moving around, should it lift. Unfortunately, and not surprising the Lanrdover employee used the whats at hand approach when building Georges engine Rolling Eyes coupled with his extras Laughing its proved costly. However with the need for another Head, another modification can be made

I bet thats why some of the early k series engines were better than th later ones, As the later ones had more trouble with the dowels too, as i mentioned to george. So lookes to me its been a famous cut back across the range then. Rolling Eyes Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back

Thought about Low comp pistons ??I know you can get uprated head bolts but not cheap Big Cry

Yeah george are you going to touch the bottom end? Might be worth looking at some upgrades there if you have the ££
When i did my k series engine i did look at the bottom end, but the pistons were £500, I did toy with the idea but i thought the car just isnt worth it. i threw nearly 10k at it before, yeah i threw 10k at a rover metro Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back

The company I'm using is making me solid dowels for locating the head. The clamp pressure for the standard bolts is fine for what I'm doing, I would imagine you'd have to be running serious boost to need anything more substantial. I'm getting standard replacements Thumbs Up

So to answer the question no I don't think it does, unless you buy it from somewhere like Turner Engineering who build them up into kits Thumbs Up 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon

Oh right, I thought you could only get them from turners Embarassed

Will you be doing the work yourself? If so please take pictures of the new head in all its glory I'd be interested to see it. Mine being a 10p may need one when the time comes....

Turners are the most well known but I wanted my valve gear putting into a new head as I know it's been well looked after. I'm using Wards Engineering in Rugby who are fitting my valve gear and building up the head (also turning some solid dowels for me).

Of course I'll take some pictures when I receive it and during the fitting process Thumbs Up 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon

If the option is there to run the better head bolts and you have the budget, I would. Just to be a fanny Thumbs Up Defender TD5 90 ---/--- Peugeot 306 HDI hatch back
