I must add to the above which I didn't think to mention previously that there is some judder occasionally pulling off in 1st and reverse. It's got progressively worse and sometimes doesn't do it at all.

Certainly sounds to me like the clutch has had it steve, best to get it changed ASAP. We did one at work the other day and the damaged springs from the centre plate had been scoring nasty grooves in the flywheel where the chap drove it to destruction!

Yep, I think it's best I don't drive it and try and get it done ASAP.
Not under warranty though, gulp! Not help by the fact I have no other transport either. |

Steve, mine developed similar symptoms to yours, it was a bit sporadic but quite unnerving when easing the clutch up. It has had the death rattle for a while now but the slipping and lurching has only happened over the last couple of weeks. It's in at my indie today getting a new clutch kit having had to wait 10 days for a free slot.

Steve, if you get a new clutch fitted ask whoever does it to inspect the gearbox output adaptor shaft splined coupling whilst they're at it. It is a relatively easy and quick job if the box is coming out anyway, but a major pain if it fails since you are completely without drive.
The '07 model year seems on the whole to be less problematic in this respect than many later ones (perhaps LR changed suppliers later) and mine was still perfect at 140k miles, so hopefully yours willbe too. If you do get this done, ask the mechanic to smother the coupling in molybdenum grease (CV joint grease) before reassembly. I'm not sure if you go to a main dealer or an independent for work of this kind (or do it yourself), but the bad news is that a new clutch from a main dealer is likely to be about £1200 fitted. The parts are around £200 if you go OEM not LR, IIRC. It is not actually a difficult job to do yourself, the biggest problem is that the gearbox is so heavy - when I did mine I took the transfer box off first, then the gearbox, which made it a lot easier (I was fitting a new transfer box anyway, and wanted to inspect the coupling). Looking through the threads £1000+ seems to be the going rate.

Hey Mal, it's A L Services near Sterte. Used him for ages now and have no reason to go elsewhere. I'll post up what the final bill is for the clutch work.
I'm not very impressed with the Alder Hills indie as his quotes seem to be steep and he even tried to convince me that a Puma has a DMF that would need replacing with the clutch kit 2015 90 XS CSW TDCi - Beautiful

Rus, there is plenty of information on here about DMF replacement with a clutch. I suppose if you're in the position of a clutch replacement due consideration may have to be given if it's worth doing the DMF at the same time? I don't know? I personally wouldnt change a clutch without DMF if it was being changed due to wear, if it was just a freak clutch failure then you may be ok. Any good garage will check the DMF anyway and advise you before fitting it all back together. The expensive bit is the labour so you dont want to be doing it again for a while. 2001 TD5 110 County Station Wagon - sold

I thought Puma's did not have a DMF and TD5's did ??
As Russ is talking about a Puma then they should not have been quoting for a DMF ? Totally confused of Somerset

Hey Bob, yeah I'm with you on that one, no DMF on a Puma as far as I'm aware. Maybe the indie was having a brain fart at the time but I wasn't falling for it. Now had it been my previous TD5 then no problem. 2015 90 XS CSW TDCi - Beautiful
