United Kingdom 2010 Defender 90 Puma 2.4 SW Stornoway Grey
Hello familymad

interesting read... and some 'make you smile' follow up comments from the rest Thumbs Up

One additional feature that some RR's may have burred in their software happened to a neighbor of mine in our village.

Now this is low on the list of probabilities but never the less this is what happened to him. I should start by saying I don't know exactly the spec' of this car just that it's an Autobiography Ultimate Edition Mk 4 and around 6 months old.

In London, in traffic and stationary, a slow passing lorry experienced a tyre burst... a loud tyre burst. The RR went into some kind of 'lock down' thinking that it was under attack, sunroof closed and all doors locked automatically and according to LR because it was stationary the immobiliser prevented it from being driven...
a anti hi-jack feature.

Can't open the vehicle from inside or out and can't go anywhere...
result Evil or Very Mad on the outside from other motorists, and Question on the inside.

The Fix... a rummage through the glove box to obtain the LR Assistance Card... first register !
then get LR to remotely deactivate this immobilisation feature which (to their credit) they did.

This all took around 15 minutes to solve with the Police arriving towards the end, not understanding why my neighbor couldn't even lower his window to explain!

I'm sure there are some who need a mobile panic room, but he freely admitted that didn't even know the RR had this feature, everything was as supplied and presumably set to auto, the feature can and has been switched off. SKIP

^^That's all very well for a Defender, but for a £90,000 car, it's simply not good enough for it to have that many issues when so new.

Or any.

Mind you, I've never bought a 90k car. Does a new 911 come with a set of problems as well? 2009 110 XS Station Wagon

Also I wouldn't be surprised if you could sell your new range rover for very little lose. The waiting list for one is massive.

Cheapest one on official site is £72,995 for a TDV6 Vogue on 63 plate with 3,800 miles on the clock. What would that have been new?

Boot failed to shut again this morning and wouldn't lock.

There was an official(?) fix on earlier models - the soft side of some velco tape put into the base of the lower catch. Seemed to stop the catch bouncing and not locking properly.

Just speculating but the air con coming on itself etc. could well be that the timed climate control has been set.
This can be set on a 7 day cycle and only programmed to work at a certain time on maybe 1 or two days a week or on all 7 days.

Great feature but bit of a shock if it works when you aren't expecting it.

On the other hand it could also be a fault Whistle

I'm sure the new Range Rover's are great, lovely to drive etc but I just couldn't part with that kind of money and take the hit on depreciation,

If you could have bought one but didn't, then that pretty much gives you a Defender for free (courtesy of the depreciation you didn't have to bear)!

I've test driven both the FFRR and the Defender in the past couple of years and, although undoubtedly competent, I know I wouldn't look down from the window and smile upon seeing a RR on the driveway.

A friend has the previous model RR and feels pressure to change it because it looks dated. Mine looked dated when I ordered it.

I do sometimes wish mine would fit into car parks though!
