United Kingdom 2012 Defender 110 Puma 2.2 XS DCPU Orkney Grey
Puma 2.2 Turbo Hose
Last week took our usual hols up to the Lakes from Norfolk. Very Happy First decent trip in the new DCPU 2.2, all going spankingly well until half way up the M6. Big bang, followed by enthusiastic whooshing, to cut a long story short the hose that comes from the turbo, offside under the larger air intake pipe had blown off.

Land Rover Assistance chap assured me that it had never been put on correctly in the first place, and promptly refitted it. One hundred miles further, same result Shocked Managed to limp into Eskdale to our cottage. Again LR Assistance came out and announced that the fitter on the M6 hadn't tightened the jubilee clip correctly Evil or Very Mad

It also seems that on the inside edge of the jubilee clip there are two nodules which are meant to help grip the pipe. According to LR these are a menace because the have the effect of cutting into the pipe and causing it to split! Which has happened to mine.

So a quick call to Coniston LR to order a new pipe, Ah 'No Sir, very sorry, this is a known issue and no pipes available in UK at the moment due to a high demand'. Great....... so the rest of the week, I am driving around waiting for it to come off again, it did move and does need to be re-tightened periodically. As LR says, the pipe is under huge pressure when under load, and probably needs 2 x clips instead of one. Part now on order back in Norfolk, no due date as yet Big Cry

The reason for the post is that it might be prudent to check on your pipes, so to speak, before you are stranded. No pipe, zero power, zero movement.

Laughing

Could be wrong but have a feeling they repositioned the Turbo on the 2.2 to squeeze the DPF in! Why that would make any difference I don't know - useful eh! Whistle Rolling Eyes

You could put some heavy duty duct tape on the hose beneath the hoseclip and then tighten the clip without damaging the hose. You could also repair the hose split temporarily with the duct tape. I've got stuff here called "Gorilla Tape" and it is really strong. 1982 88" 2.25 diesel

The split is on the inside of the pipe, not the outside. I believe the pressure exerted on the pipe is immense when under load, tape might protect the external surface but I don't think that is the issue. I think its a poor design, LR gave me a call today and said they are trying to source a much wider jubilee clip which should almost fill the indent in the turbo outlet. Hopefully eliminating any form of slippage. 2012 Defender 110 DCPU XS 2.2 Puma Orkney Grey
