I have just been in touch with the AA re cover
Standard break down recovery and home start for 2 motors and 2 people in any motor costs £149 / year The AA then went on to say I could get garage cover for an extra £80 / year This includes anything that stops the motor working including engine and full drive train failure. This will cover the parts and labour costs. Now it would seem on the face of it that as I would have home start if I have any problems with the motor on the drive ie g/box engine, clutch etc and I called the AA out they would take the motor to a garage and get it mended. In effect an extended warranty. This was confirmed by the AA. They are sending a quote in the post so I have as yet to read the small print. Is this correct? |

I'm no longer capable of even changing a Land Rover or Dakar wheel.
I know I'll always be able to get me and my vehicle home or to a place of repair. Our membership includes accomodation if necessary. It's fairly expensive but worth every penny just for peace of mind. I've been a member of the AA since 1975 and, to date, every one of the employees or agents that have been sent to give us assistance have been polite, efficient and cheerful.  |

This sounds almost too good to be true! But I suppose it’s predicated on the fact that most people drive Euroboxes, and, lets face it they are pretty reliable and 99.9% will never have to use the cover. So am I
I told the lad whe lad who I spoke to that I towed a caravan, he asked for the weights and as the total came over 3.5 tonnes he said they could not offer a service. I then said I thought they put the vehicle on the lorry and towed the caravan when recovering he went away for 5 mins, came back and said ok. So I think he has it wrong somewhere on the garage costs. |

Was with the RAC a few years ago. Used them once when my exhaust on the Peugeot 307 partially fell off in Milldale and I couldn’t get the rest free of the car to drive home. Great service.
Only left the RAC because I get breakdown cover ‘free’ with my bank account who subcontract to Green Flag. Used them recently when my central locking blew a fuse due to wires shorting in doors - and they were great too. Land Rover Assist recovered Florence when the intercooler hose ruptured - and they were flawless. Couldn’t fault any of them. Still have Green Flag for the Fiat and both for the Landy. I pay for the bank account and the extended warranty of course. . |

I was with the RAC until recently
Had to call them out for a snapped prop and a blown differential. Told them on the phone exactly what the problem was and that I would need a recovery truck. Both times they refused until a van had been sent to attempt a roadside repair. The snapped prop shaft resulted in me sitting at the side of a motorway for 3 hours waiting for a recovery truck to turn up and the diff was slightly shorter at 2 hours. The recovery truck for the prop shaft came from 10 mins down the road.... so I could have been away from danger within minutes instead of hours But the icing on the cake: A few years back I hit a fox and then a kerb near Aberdeen in my Subaru. Broke the bumper and bent the wheel - so to be safe I called recovery to get me home. The next day I had a call from my insurance asking about the accident that I'd been involved in - because the RAC had called them and told them I had crashed. So now the insurance on ALL my cars went up Then they sent me a frankly ridiculous bill for the recovery as it was a "crash" not a break down - so I wasn't covered. If they had told me that at the time I would have left the car in Aberdeen and went to get it with my own trailer, but they didn't. That was the last straw |

Being a tight northern b*****d I have had used AutoAid Breakdown for the last few years. In my experience they just route any call outs to local recovery guys. On the few occasions I have used them, they have been quick to respond and very good indeed.
Best of all, you get full recovery for something like 42 quid per year. Have a google on MoneySavingExpert to see the comparison with other "national" organisations. For that price, its a must have. It covers me, not the car, so my classic S2A is also covered. Sorted for little over 40 quid! Staftly |

This thread was a good prompt! I’ve just bought personal cover for me and Mrs H with the RAC. Green flag looked cheaper but only covered vehicles up to 17 years old, which would exclude the 90 and P38. The pay monthly option of £14 didn’t look like great value compared to the annual premium of £133. I thought there were caps on the amount that could be charged for the benefit of paying monthly- a £35 difference is a proper rip off!

AA, appalling service!!! So last week we were travelling South on the M6, stopped at Keele Services and just after setting off again Defender went into limp home mode, we were about 200 meters South of the Services on the hard shoulder. Called the AA who put us through to Land Rover Assistance, this was 1pm. Had various calls and texts saying when the recovery truck was coming and eventually after 3 hours both the recovery truck and the LR Assist guy turned up. They loaded the Defender and took us down to Stafford Services, LR Assist guy tried to ID the fault which came up as a fault in the fuel system and could not be fixed roadside. So, a recovery truck was ordered to take us back home, 3 hours later one arrived and drove us the 2 hours back to our house. All in all it was over 9 hours from breaking down to getting home, even the recovery driver who took us home was appalled. Needless to say I spent an email to the AA for an explanation, also my son in law did the same on Fb. Now waiting for a reply.
Post script : Land Rover was recovered from home the next day to Kentdale who diagnosed a blocked fuel filter and was quickly sorted. |

I used them Friday when Lucindas starter finally copped out.
Larry the Lithuanian Jaguar-Landrover man (no really) came after an hour and a half and bump started me in the most awkward position (Left turn onto my downhill drive and left turn uphill).
