I've gave it a careful tap here and there with in obvious reason, I think the UJ cups are a little tight against the circlip.
New plier set should be here tomorrow so hopefully with a bit of fiddling about the should do the trick along with freeing it up a bit more as well. I went for US Pro circlip plier set. I think I'll give it a go to push the UJ cup in a tiny bit just to push it away from the circlip at the same time. Will update tomo Diesel$ Live$ Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨🔧🧰⚙️ RED, WHITE & BOOST! 🇬🇧 |

Rolson ... one of the few names that can make even Britpart look decent quality!

Put it this way, I hoped it may do just one job. Never used it before and how wrong was I.
I reckon once the circlips are out, it shouldn't be too bad at all. Lots of tools around are such poor quality, I know they cost next to nothing but that's no use if they don't even do one job. *EDIT* I once made the mistake of buying 1x Britpart item, I think it was a clear indicator years ago an incandescent one. It was my first and last and it was broken out of the box! Also, the UJ's I went for were GKN's. That's exactly what they did. I'll grab some pics tomorrow hopefully. And not just one set of tips but two of them did same thing, as well as the arms bending. To be honest even if the circlips were out, they still wouldn't be up to the job so something HD is in order I think. So I thought I'd call it a day, leave it alone and get some better ones to avoid damaging the yokes at all or circlip groove. Diesel$ Live$ Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨🔧🧰⚙️ RED, WHITE & BOOST! 🇬🇧 |

I tend to buy my circlip pliers “lifetime guarantee” where you can take them back and get new again. It’s always the tips that snap off. If you’re stuck and want to get it done you can grind the tips back down to get you through.

Well, the circlip pliers arrived today. All good, they do the trick perfectly and much much much more stronger!
I've also been giving the circlip seats a tap all the way around and pressed in the UJ cups just a tiny tiny bit to free off from circlips. (It was the seized UJ that was tight, the rest were okay and came straight out.) Got two out no propblem late this afternoon, but now have to go out tonight now. Will crack on tomorrow hopefully. Couple of pics, nothing really much to see. New vice and soft grips I have got, will be useful for other things in future. Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge It was a pretty good price as well! I have a Record 4" vice, but that's too small for this job and non swivel. Circlip out, nothing much to see really on that. Click image to enlarge Circlip plier set too: Click image to enlarge These are the smaller ones, but at a later date I'll probably get the larger ones too which will be useful to have both sizes. The Sykes Picavant threaded types look good, but a bit more than I'd like to spend at the moment. Finally the handbrake drum and rear diff flange. Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge I've got a new handbrake drum screw from Dan @ Duckworth which is a flat head type and not the pozi. Not keen on the pozi type, I feel they are too easy to cam out and be a pain. So will be replacing that. (And correct Torque of course.) So getting there. 👍🏻 Diesel$ Live$ Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨🔧🧰⚙️ RED, WHITE & BOOST! 🇬🇧 |

Don't bother torquing the screw, it's not worth the effort. All the screw does is prevent the drum falling off if you remove the propshaft.

I had a job to remove it, it seemed like it had been worn a little looking at it at the time. I’ll have the torque wrench under there anyway so may as well. Diesel$ Live$ Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨🔧🧰⚙️ RED, WHITE & BOOST! 🇬🇧

Been getting on with this when I had time today, nearly got all the UJ's out now.
The siezed ones were absolute pigs to remove, and a lot of jiggery pokery and sensible help from the persuader done the trick! Yokes and flange are fine though luckily. Hopefully the rest and the front when I do it eventually won't be such a pain. *Later Edited* Got them all out now, found it much easier to rip out the old plastic seals on the old ones. The seized UJ you can see, roller bearings were rusty in one cup and a load of rusty dust came out of one of the cups as well. Tomorrow I'll clean everything up, inc the circlip grooves etc and check for burrs and so on. Hopefully then I'll get the new UJ's fitted. You can tap the old circlip up around it's circumference to help loosen it to. Also pays to check new circlip will rotate once fitted to check it's in groove properly.
Another idea is to cut a groove ,x, in the top of each new spider leg so the grease spreads every around the cup. Be mindful of swarf. Cheers James 110 XS Utility 130 Puma Station wagon/camper (in the making) 90 Puma Hardtop Last edited by jst on 24th May 2018 9:30pm. Edited 1 time in total |

They’re in and all good and greased. Just got to fit it tomorrow and grease the slider once on. I’ve got a pistol type grease gun. How many pumps for the slider? I’ve done the UJ’s okay. One movement is a little bit more tighter than the rest though on the UJ nearest the handbrake on the prop yokes. I was careful putting it in and checked for burrs etc etc. It moves okay but a bit stiffer than the rest. I’ve gave it a tap around but doesn’t seem to change.
definitely didn’t push them in to far or anything like that. Might just be the seals / plastic collars a little tight but anyway they’re in and all went well. Also found out what a pain grease guns can be! Diesel$ Live$ Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨🔧🧰⚙️ RED, WHITE & BOOST! 🇬🇧 |

Air greasegun is way fwd!
After tapping around they should all be free. Tap harder, ideally copper faced mallet Cheers James 110 XS Utility 130 Puma Station wagon/camper (in the making) 90 Puma Hardtop |

I will tomorrow. There is no notchyness or anything just a little more stiff than the rest. I read in Landyzone somone had had the same, as far as I’m aware there was no problem in the end. Gotta be careful not to accidentally hit the flange too.
Glad they are done. Diesel$ Live$ Matter. ⛽️🛢️👨🔧🧰⚙️ RED, WHITE & BOOST! 🇬🇧 |
