Last season we bought a BCT Outdoors Taskforce 4 tent with extension porch - it is basically a larger heavier duty force 10 style tent. It is totally bomb proof and stood up to some horrendous Scottish weather over the summer. Very thick and deep bathtub ground sheet which saved us from flooding on a couple of occasions.

Must be something to do with being a scout leader that attracted me to it. Plenty of space for 4 people with lots of kit. The porch is great for sheltering under and sitting round the bbq/firepit. It is quite a heavy tent but fits under our wooden floor across the wheel arches so it makes it easy to be the first out and last in bit of kit.

We also have an awning of the side of landy made from a scout tent flysheet and if we are camping for a longer period the kids use a 70's Good Companion tent.

Hi Scot

Nice tent....you could have saved money and just used an Icelandic 2!

Where is the picture taken, camping next to a loch? I'm looking for a camp site close to see water for the Zodiac badge!

cheers

Richard

Quite right - we have a plenty of Icelandic tents in our Scout Group but can be a bit drafty for family camping! In hind site we probably could have got away with the next size down (Taskforce 3).

The top picture by the loch is Caolasnacon Caravan & Camping Park near Kinlochleven.

The bottom picture is Spey Bay Golf Club Campsite which is a great little site on the beach.

Both let you have fires but only on the beach at Spey Bay.

Will have to try and get my Explorers to have a go at the Zodiac badge too.

Hi Catherine, Just came across this thread & I have been an OzTent convert for about 8 years. For family trips, wife dog & me it is just the RV5, with side & front panels, and a queen size Aerobed. Very comfortable setup. But when I take my very old Defender away with a bunch of equally old friends I have tried several set ups:

The above was OzTent & Malamoo as a trial.

When the cyclonic weather came in, I had to pack the OzTent away, & tether the Malamoo to some star pickets. It was a rough night but I stayed dry, the Malamoo is one of those pop up tents & is great, but packing away sometimes can be a challenge:

Hi, we replaced a rather disappointing Vaude tent with a Nordisk, which is made from a technical cotton, it's been amazing and I couldn't recommend it enough!
We also have a tarp for the front but annoyingly I can't find an image of it.

The tent took a real battering from the North Atlantic weather and it coped very well indeed!
Cheers,
Leon.

Thanks for that JOW. If the weather is really good & not too many insects then my all time favourite is just a stretcher under an awning:

I have seen more shooting stars with this set up than any other.

This is our latest set up,James Baroud & Foxwing,I also have the side extensions but not in this pic.
We can't fault it.It even has a little solar powered fan that you can use to vent condensation or reverse it for cool air ventilation.
Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Thumbs Up
