I am coming up on 3000km on my Oz 90 and have noticed a gradual increase in the 'nick' I feel when changing from 1st to 2nd gear.
I am having to 'pause' in neutral for longer to avoid the 'crunch' that I feel and hear. It is worse from cold but still does it when hot. My 90 is the UK does not do his at all, in fact I can change from 1st to 2nd gear as fast as I like, almost car like! Does anyone else have this, or any suggestions what may be going on please? I am unsure what to do... Cheers, Pete. YOLO... You Only Live Once... |

It does it all the time mate, even when hot.
I don't understand why my other 90 does not do this at all! Is there a 'fix'?? YOLO... You Only Live Once... |

Ah, I see. When was the gearbox / transfer box oil last changed?
Do you have trouble selecting 2nd it's self or is it just 'clunky' into it? I can't comment much further myself as I'm not a professional, gearboxes are pretty complicated things. Not to mention troublesome when they want to be. |

I've found this with the mrs's my15, I just can't get used to changing from 1st to 2nd smoothly. That's probably why I don't use hers much and stick to my lovely td5 Ray

It's 2nd to 1st you've got to be more careful of especially if your not used to the 6 speed Puma.

After 3000 Km, eh. Some would say, it is not yet run in, and could improve. Doing it, even when hot.
Mine has 60000 Km on it, and has good and bad days, hot and cold. I canīt figure out what makes the difference, but try to push the clutch just a little quicker and further in, to release the drive, and help the syncro. Possibly the clutch isnīt clearing as good as it could. Try looking in that direction. If not, you have one of the not so good gearboxes. Generally the change on the Puma six speed is less than wonderful. Sorry, I canīt add anything more positive than.....you arenīt alone 1998 Tdi 90 SW, 2008 Td4 90 SW, 2012 2.2 90 SW, 2" raised Trailmaster/Terrafirma Heavy Track Raids, 255 MTīs, Recaro CSīs, anorak, wellingtons |

mine did that and got worse had to be really slow changing and gentle, when I had the clutch and transfer box adaptor shaft replaced it completely cured this issue as well so it may well be a clutch adjustment issue, try removing any mats and carpets to see if that helps. Good Luck I knoow its most annoying DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS,
I hope everyone is well and your land rovers make you happy |

Hi all!
My MY2007 also suffers badly from not so pleasant gear change 1-2 and 2-3. Also have some play in the clutch and can hear the rattle from clutch when stopping engine with clutch pedal lose. It is very interesting to read that clutch replacement has improved the gear change dramatically. Sooner or later I imagine I will need new clutch anyway... Regards Ter |

Mine does it between 2nd and 3rd gears, I've found its best to take it slowly and gently. All the other changes are as smooth as they should be.

1>2 certainly about 80% of the time I get the 'grick' or 'cronk' and the temporary resistance through the change.
2>3 about 10% of the time Gear and transfer box oil change didn't help any - I'd love to fix it. |

5,000 km now... no better at all. It's quite annoying...
MY UK Heritage 90 had the SMOOTHEST gear change in all gears... almost like a normal 'car'... No 'nick' at all... YOLO... You Only Live Once... |

Gracie's had a "snick" from 1st to 2nd from new,...only way to negate it is to let the revs die right off before going into 2nd.

I just change gear from 1-2 very slowly... like a big 18 wheeler! All other gears are fine!
What I cannot understand is why some do it... and some don't! I wonder how many gearboxes you would have to sample before you found one that was 'nick' free! YOLO... You Only Live Once... |

Mine is at 100,000kms - not all of those mine...
It's quite audible, which means energy transfer - which means wear - so I wonder what happens eventually? Interesting no one who has read this thread has posted about returning it under warranty, I'd love to know what it is/how easy a fix... |
