United Kingdom 2008 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 SW Stornoway Grey
Door Hinges
so one of my doors is now sagging, what should I replace the hinges with, same crap as before or does anyone make something significantly better?

S 08 110 Puma Station Wagon

Second Row Off Side but TBH they're all looking a bit iffy. I'm thinking of getting all new having them painted and replacing the lot.

I am surprised, the second row doors don't have much weight in them, unlike the rear safari door. 2016 D4 HSE

I think that it is all to do with (a) how often the hinges are lubricated, and (b) how often you open the doors.

It wouldn't happen if LR fitted grease nipples to the hinges!

Incidentally has anyone successfully removed the hinge pin from a genuine hinge? I though it would be easy with an appropriate size pin punch but they don't seem to budge at all, which makes me think that the bottom of the pin must be 'upset' to expand it into the hinge body after assembly.

Croytec hinges (although expensive) have built in grease nipples and look rather better built that standard Landrover hinges. Ray

I replaced all my hinges with alloy ORP hinges and can't praise them highly enough. Very strong and don't think they sag anytime soon.

Not if you glue a ball bearing in the socket in the head!

I did this to all my original hinges and it is staggeringly difficult to replace them when they wear! It is almost too effective!

Done that to the 4 horizontal bolts on each of my doors - just pointing out that the added functionality of an easily re-buildable hinge is a double edged sword in this case. Thumbs Up

Just make sure you use top quality ball bearings - not sure where some of mine came from and they rusted up within a year and as you point out they are difficult to remove! Rolling Eyes

There was a right up somewhere in the net. You pushed the old pin out. Drilled the top ole slightly then tapped the bottom and fitted a shanked cap screw. You could also drill and tap for a grease fitting which I did on my old 90 made a huge difference.

Reference get the pin out I used some heat and a good 5lb hammer and punch.

Croytec Hinges
Old XS110 went through 2 sets of front hinges in the 6 years I had it!

Went Croytec for the front doors and windscreen blocks on my keeper.

Greased Spring and Autum, no problems.

Went Optimill for the back door, still look like new.

Cost a fortune (but she's worth it) just don't tell the wife!

Just fill them with epoxy resin and paint the resin the same colour as the hinge and 99.9% of people wouldn't even notice it, then if the pin needed removing just dremel out the resin. Ray
