Check the floor folding brackets back are up properly first then slam the seat base back down hard it should then allow the seatback to go up
 A good slam all ways works for mine, Defender fine engineering  |

thanks guys I tried brute force and its slightly better in the sense that the lever clicked back eventually (which it didn't before) but you have to shake the seatback violently. Doesnt say that in the handbook

I fitted up a draw system to my Puma. I had all seats folded forward while I worked. After finishing the installation I went to fold the seats back and the seat would not relock on the catch on the floor and the seat back would not fold back to the upright position I then mucked around with mountings and things and could not find the problem. I removed the seats and put them back as I had removed the catch on the floor during the instalation and put it back. No good - seats still would not lock. I removed some of the draw system and blow me down the seat locked perfectly. Put the draw panel back and the seat would not lock again even though the draw was not touching the seat back. By accident as I was stuffing around trying to fix the problem, I moved the pull release loop of the seat and all of a sudden the seat back could be moved back into the lock position. What I discovered was that the loop would just catch on the rear of the draw set which stopped it going fully home. It was only a matter of milimetres but was enough to stop the whole seat mechanism working properly. pushing the loop fully home fixed the problem. If the seat back will not go to the upright position push the locking/unlocking loop fully home and this might fix the problem. In this case just a gentle push to make sure the loop was fully home solved my problem. Obviously I can't say if this is a similar problem to yours or others, but check just the same. Good luck. |

I had this on one of mine, mentioned it to the dealer who said it was fixed but it started playing up again soon after. I ended up removing the plastic trim and lubricating the whole mechanism, while doing this I found that the Allen head screw which hold the catch onto the shaft was loose - tightening this up made it better. That said I occasionally still have to manually push the loop handle down to engage the lock as sometimes it still doesn't want to engage by itself. Steve.

yep when I covered the bare patch of metal near the loop handle I realised that it had to be pushed in the last few mil before the seat would go back. The problem I have now is that the seatback when up doesn't lock in the upright position unless you physically move the little lever by the seat base up (it should pop up and lock automatically). Well it kind of does now since I started to apply violence but I think I'll dismantle part of it and look for a fault in the mechanism before trying the dealer or battering it further ! |

This is exactly the same on mine. The seat back is also considerably stiffer to raise back up than the single seat. Please let me know if you have any luck fixing it. Rich semper in excretia sumus solim profundum variat |

Anyone had a "fixit" for this problem, as my seat (left hand side) will not disengage the lock and will not fold up.

That is correct. I had the same issue after the SVX turned 5 years old, and tried to get the mechanism renewed under my extended warranty. Which did not work for this case. The price of a new mechanism is mouth watering, so my dealer showed me as Mark says, to push the strap manually completely down, and then the seatback will fold up completely and properly lock. I can live with this solution for the rear seats.

Thanks for the quick replies guys, have sort of fixed the problem but only short term, took off the side cover and the small wire was loose had to pull it with some long nosed pliers to disengage the lock, worked fine but still unsure what a long term fix is, any ideas anyone ?
