TDCi - fuel feed system

is is an HP system all the way from the tank the same as a td5?

ie if i want a fuel feed supply do i need to go back to the tank or can i T it off a fuel line?

No. The TD5 has the pump in the tank giving positive pressure in the fuel lines through the filter to the engine. The TDCi has a pump unit on the engine which creates a negative pressure in the fuel line drawing the fuel through the filter to the engine.

Question

Interesting.

Hence the issue of water being ingested via the fuel tank breather valve. A postive pressurised tank would not have the same problem.

so if i needed to get a fuel supply for a webasto i would need to go straight to the tank then i guess?

The td5 tank doesn't get positive pressure, it still holds a partial vacuum as it drains, it just doesnt seem to get as big as the TDCi. When I open the fuel cap on my TD5 you can hear the air get sucked in when the seal breaks. I do have long range tanks though (150l).

I guess you take it from the fuel return line, that would be under some pressure. Wether it would have the volume and pressure required for what you want I don't know. Taking a separate feed from the tank may indeed be a better/safer option.

Webastos come with their own feed pump so i guess from the tank may be the way to go.

Would not bother with the webasto , Puma's have a heating system Thumbs Up
Just can not see the hassle of fitting / swapping over, worth it

thats what i was thinking, ones at work seem to warm up a lot quicker than the td5 so i am unlikely to bother but was just wondering

maybe the tdci warms up quicker due to the lack of oil in the top part of the engine.......... Shocked

The puma's warm up just a quickly as most modern cars (and like any other tdci ford) so i would say you wont need one.

Whilst im waiting i put the heated seats on (although we have only had 1 cold morning since April to test it)
