Good luck, you should have an awesome time! Thumbs Up

Don't worry too much if you don't manage to register the truck for the tolls; if you don't register they will just send you an invoice for any you go through. One turned up last week for me, back from February!

If you make it to Tromso, make sure to go up the cable car, views are amazing and worth the fee Thumbs Up

Are you going to blog as you go?

Thanks for your toll tip Phoenix - probably will not be Blogging as we are sleeing in the wagon and not in huts/hotels, - but will do a long post when I get back as I'll be back offshore again and will have a little time to put some order to the blur of the trip!

Have safely returned from a great trip and it all went well.
As planned, we took the overland route to Bergan via the Danish Hirtshals ferry.
From there we drove north taking in the coast as much as possible admiring the work of Slartybatfast, up to the Atlantic Coast Road (with the famous bridge to nowhere as seen on many car adverts )
We then meandered up till we crossed the 66th latitude at the arctic centre. We continued north till we reached the Lofton islands just south of Tromso and then made our way south the same way.
The whole trip took 17 days UK to UK with us driving about 3400 miles in total from Cornwall.

We saw several defenders - most were touring but one or two were local plates. Lots (and Lots!) of campervans and motorbikes, many tunnels and ziz-zag mountain roads to drive on - with a max speed of 80kph on most Norwegian roads there was low stress driving and plenty of time to admire the views.
as an aside we were getting about 480 miles per tank, which was probably due to the high quality fuel and the low speeds. the engine was rarely over 2k revs

Costs were kept down by taking all our own food (and my partners Wine! ) as well as having no accommodation costs (Dormobile conversion). There are tolls to be paid on the roads which may equate to about £150 and local ferry crossings as and when required (about £10-15 )
Fuel was cheaper than in the UK, (about £1.20 per ltr) and bread (just about our only regular purchase) was about £3 for a good quality Scandinavian loaf!
Camping was free and water etc was easily available in the numerous rest areas.
All in all it was a great trip as we were very lucky with the weather – having only 1 wet day and one foggy/misty day when up in the mountains.
After all the work fitting the heater for the trip we only used it once and that was in the UK before we sailed - but we used the Aircon most days - including up in the Lofton islands !!

The 110 was fantastic, only issues were the cable for the central locking snapping on both rear doors (fixed on the spot) and the Traction control/ABS lights coming on during our last day in Norway - both continued to work fine so expect its a sensor issue.

Many thanks to all who gave help/advice - all I can say is go !!!
The roads were quiet, the people lovely, the views Spectacular, and Slartybatfast gets a 10/10 from me!! Bow down

Super pics. I did a similar trip in 2011 in a Mazda hire car, about a year before I got the 90. Seeing your pics makes me want to go back and do it all over again in that. The Mazda was fine, but it would be so much better in a Land Rover I bet... Smile

Rolling with laughter

Me too!!
~my partner says she downloaded them today and has some 'wow' photos... but I'll have to wait to see them when I get home in 3 weeks!
She also said The 1DX performed well and she liked the way it handled the range of contrast from the bright sky, snow and waterfalls... compaired to the 1DS ... Poppy - TDCI (Puma) 110XS 2.2 - Camper conversion - see the build here - https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic56530.html

Hey Wyvern it looks amazing! Looking forward to seeing more photos Thumbs Up

Lofoten is one of the places I haven't made it to yet, but looks really nice as well.

Looks like our 2015 dates will be 21.01.15 - 07.02.15, though as Steve says, routes are having to be changed as the Harwich - Esbjerg ferry stops operating in September : Harwich - Esbjerg ferry route closes.

Further info on the 2015 trip will be released in July Whistle
