ln local driving my D250 initiates a regeneration approximately every 100 miles. When it happens l try not to turn off the engine until it's finished, but it's not always possible.
ln that case the vehicle will try to do another regeneration, often the next time the engine is started. |

Oh, it’s even less than mine. I tho in mines does it approximately every 250/400km, depending on diving types. Yes when I notice high idle rpm or higher than zero consumption when the gas pedal is not pressed I know it’s regenerating so I try to let it finish.

Yours sounds fine, it depends on the type of driving that you do.
When on longer journeys mine will regenerate every 3-500 miles although it's not always possible to detect when it's happening. |

There's no lights on the dashboard to tell you.
The only real clues are, the idle speed is a bit higher, start/stop won't work, and the fuel consumption drops very quickly. However if you've not recently reset the average fuel consumption you won't notice the change. lf you stop the engine before the regeneration has finished, it will try again. Eventually you'll get a warning light if enough of them fail. But it's never happened with mine. |

In city driving, my D200 (3liter) regenerates every 250 km. What I find strange ist that it regenerates a lot more often when driving on highway (every 170 on average).
I looked at the live values with the GAP Tool, and the DPF inlet temperature sensor reads about 350°C when driving 130-140km/h on the highway. That is too low for passive regeneration (450°C). |

Passive Regeneration for Defender 2.0D
Begins: around 280 °C exhaust gas temperature (EGT) Effective range: 300 °C to 420 °C Ideal efficiency zone: 350 °C – 400 °C On my other 2.0D ingenium engine I throw in a can of DPF cleaner (Liqui Moly) every once in a blue moon. It lowers the soot burn off temp, thus would technically get better passive regen which might just be snake oil, but I feel like it worked for me when doing lots of short trips. |

I have driven a total of 10,000 miles spread between a D250 and a D300 and only twice have I suspected that the engine did a regen. Once each I have stopped the vehicles after a 3/4 mile slow run downhill to home, switched off and the electric fan starts roaring away. Otherwise and besides being a very observant and mechanically sympathetic driver, I have seen no sign of a regeneration. Same exactly goes for my 2023 Ford Ranger.
Used to have a 2011 Nissan Juke and when that was regenerating the engine tone/noise altered notably [a 1.5 diesel] yet the 2014 Qashqai that replaced it and is still run by my daughter shows no such sign and is anyway far more refined and more economical than the Juke. In 120,000+ miles between two Ford Rangers and various other vehicles including the 2014 Qashqai, I’ve never had a single DPF issue, touch wood. I don’t believe that there will be any issues with the Ingenium six cylinder engines I now run either, unless I get a faulty fuel injector at some point, producing lots of soot. |

Maybe I will try the liqui molly, the last two days I think it did the regen two times in 250km. I am worried it’s not regenerating correctly. Before this I never noticed the high amount of regeneration.

lt's normal. Mine will sometimes regenerate after 100 miles in city driving, but sometimes it's 250. It depends on how it's been driven.
Sometimes the vehicle will start a regeneration from cold, as soon as l start the engine in the morning. lt still seems to work though, as l can smell the distinctive hot exhaust when l get out. During longer journeys l assume it does it from time to time, as it's impossible to tell. Over 25,000 miles l've learnt to just ignore it and assume the system is working correctly. l've certainly never had any issues with it. |
