How to open a td5 ECU?
Hello,

Found a prodigous amount of oil on my red plug, so have changed engine loom, and cleaned up the plugs as best I can.

However it's obvious oil has got in to the ECU, despite me not having any gremlins (yet)

So I want to get inside it and clean it up before I have a problem.

I see some recommend using heat to weaken the seal, others suggest you shouldn't use heat in case it transfers to the board, and others suggest dowsing it in boiling water.

Any obvious tricks?

cheers

Ed

Leave it be. Dont fix what isnt broken.

Clean the plugs and leave it alone.

Oil in ECU is not a problem, until it is really flowing out of ECU. Board and components inside are covered with some silicon coating, and the oil is good enough isolator on these low voltages. It is also not damaging internal components of ECU.
Carefully clean and dry connectors on ECU and wiring harness sides.
Opening of ECU is a bit tricky, bot covers are held by screws and glued with good silicon. You have to pry covers with some screwdrivers and levers.
To stop oil getting inside wiring, just replace 2 Orings on male connector of injector harness placed below valve cover. "Drobek" = The Small One - Discovery 2, "BlufĂnek" = The Blue Thing - Defender 130, and for me at least Ford Mondeo Smile
