Check for DTCs, if none, replace the VCV.

Thanks for the quick reply. I'm OK with spanners, but no engine mechanic so could you please explain what CTC's are and what the VCV is. Thanks..

DTC = Diagnostic Trouble Code. You have an OBD2 port in the fuse box under the steering wheel. You connect a diagnostic tool to that port to read DTC’s . These codes are an alpha numeric format and each one points to a specific test that has not performed as it should and therefore a single DTC or combination of DTCs allows you to localise an issue with the engine, sensors, brakes etc.
Cheap ELM327 code readers coupled with a free phone app such as torque will allow you to read the codes, look them up on the internet or post on here and we can advise on what you issue probably is. As Blackwolf states, the lack of any DTCs and the issue you have would point towards a VCV ( fuel volume control valve) issue, which is very common on the 2.4. |

Thank you for that. I have a code reader knocking about somewhere, ill dig it out and check. No engine lights on at present, but something might come up. If the VCV is a common fault then I'll get my local to change it and report the findings. Cheers.

If you are ok with spanner’s, and Allen keys then the VCV changeout s not technically difficult, just awkward due to restrictive access.
The key thing is to get a Genuine Denso VCV from a very reputable supplier as lots of fakes out there that just don’t work or fail very quickly. See bell auto services site for instructions. Ps most don’t do a pump learn or pilot correction with diagnostics tools and all runs well after a few miles driving. https://bellautoservices.co.uk/store/defen...our-valve/ |

That's a good sight thanks and it seems easy enough to do. I tried to order one from Bell, but they are out of stock so I'll try and get a quality one elsewhere. Thanks for the advice and wish me luck. I'll let you know the result
