You could go for a lower mileage old style Defender.

Prices have fallen lately, there's a lovely 60,000 mile 2005 110 XS Station Wagon been on Ebay for months at £22,000
I bet an offer of £21,000 would buy it. Just make sure you won't fall foul of any LEZ or ULEZ
That's what's knocking values down.

Man up and get the lot, my wife loves our Defender but also wants an L322 so she can drive something larger as she can't reach the clutch properly in the TD5 (short girl issues). She also wants a 911 at some point or a Morgan (I married well I think).

Forget the Morgan and 911, I’ve had both, get her a 986, more fun than either of the previous two at a fraction of the cost. Win win Laughing

Theres three Morgans in the family, two +8's (one moss box) and a +4 supersport that all get raced by my father in law. I've driven them all and would have a +8 over any 911 or Cayman etc. Then again I seem to have a thing for the uncovental cars.

Having just sold my low mileage D4 Landmark and gone to a new Defender 110, there are pro's and Cons.

No doubt the D4 is far more practical, hands down. Bigger boot, comfortable seats, heated seats etc but ....

Everytime I park my 110 I look around, the tech is amazing having taken it off road, it just looks awesome. I did go for the p400e, around town im always in full EV mode, and its amazing. Yes, it is expensive compared to the D4 but it's just great.

I'm soon to do a drive to Switzerland in the 110, hopefully the smile still remains.

Let's be honest - what we would really like is the gadgets, interior and mechanics of a Defender in a D4 body...

^^ Not for me, the D3 I previously owned had all the tech and gadgets I needed, but then I own Series Ones and a V8 Ninety which have zero tech and gadgets so the D3 was like a spaceship in comparison Laughing

I remember going from a 90 to a D3 and it was like being dragged into another dimension.
Every time I got in that car I marvelled at the tech, Gadgets and wizardry at your finger tips. DEFENDER XS CSW 08 TONGA GREEN

l went from a 2005 110 to the new Defender.

l had a similar experience. But the new one does have character, unlike many new vehicles l've driven.

What annoys me is that LR have proved that they can create a great car in the Defender. Knowing that they can do it, why can't they do the same for a Discovery?

Yep as other have said the Discovery (market segment) died with the D4 and got resurrected wearing a retro Defender jacket.

They say that Landrover never had a marketing failure... apart from the D5, which for a car company is pretty darn good.

I've done the transition from Range Rover Classic to D3 to D5 to new Defender 110 and they just keep getting better. The LR3 was a great truck. The D5 - especially the TDV6 like I had was very good- and if it had been built with a squared off rear end with a lift gate/tail gate like its predecessors I think it would have been a lot more popular. The 110 is a big improvement over the D5 in structural rigidity and suspension calibration.

I can also say the Defender is a Disco4 with a pinch of old Defender on top of it. There could be more space for sleeping inside though...

Hi Folks, interesting thread - tomorrow my 21 Defender 90 P400X gets picked up, on Friday I collect a 16 D4 Landmark, 1 owner, FLRSH, Ext warranty, 22k miles. So maybe I’m crazy, never had a D3/4 before. My Defender tipped £115k by the time I added a lot of options, great bit of kit, looked awesome but somehow I’m just drawn to a D4 (had to be Corris Grey). Booked in for dinitrol and ceramic etc.

So the journey begins, will it be a huge mistake? Will the engine explode on me ? Will I miss the Defender and all its greatness ?

I will report back…. Wish me luck 😬 ------------------------------

Interesting and good luck. I'm now seriously looking at a D5 Embarassed Its not my cup of tea but it is closer to a D4 than the Defender 2. If the Defender had a rear hatch and drop down plank it would be Ok, but the D4 and D5 practicality is on a different level.

My local dealer has a new D5 that fits the bill so we will see. In the mean time, they are retrofitting my Defender with all the bits that were missing when I bought it!
