Hello everyone -
My name is Scott and I just purchased a USA spec 2025 Defender with the 6 cylinder engine. I have driven a Benz for the last 30 years, the last 20 in a G-Wagen (which I still have). I also drive several classic British cars, also for more years than I care to mention. I have thousands of posts on the various MB boards (under Floobydust). I firmly believe in learning from a forum and giving back to the forum.
But with the introduction of the Defender to the US market a few years back, I can no longer justify the price of a G. Hence the switch.
I ordered a GAP tool before I even took delivery of the Defender and I have made many "adjustments" to customize it to suit my liking - auto stop/start, drive away locking, etc.
But the one thing that I want most to do is get rid of the audio system speed controlled volume. MB insisted on inflicting the pestilence on drivers, but I was able to disable it on every Benz I have owned. At fist, just disconnecting a wire, then using a Star System (which I have), a later, using a can blocker to suppress the speed signal to the head unit.
My understanding is that the Range Rover has the ability to shut this annoyance off, but so far, not so on the Defender.
Has anyone done this or know if it can be done? I am an electrical engineer and audiophile and this function makes me want to rip the steering wheel off. Any help, hints, etc. would be greatly appreciates.
