Puma Reversing Light Not Working!!!
Out last nite and I realised the reversing light is not working.

Today I went to replace the bulb, but thats not it.

Perfect earth.

Only 7.8 volts on the positive terminal.

Any ideas guys?

Many thanks.

Not got the diagrams with me, as I'm at work, but I'd have a look at the wiring diagram and see if there's anything else on that same circuit.

If nothing else is having issues, a complete guess would be dodgy reverse switch on the gearbox.

Thanks BenB8man
Yes that was my first thought, but why does it show 7.8 volts?
If the switch is knackered surely it would be dead. 2007 90 Puma - Love it - Best car I have ever owned.

Your guess is probably as good as mine! Wink

If you take off your cubby and bottom plate you should be able to access it fairly easily. If you switch to ohms and click in into reverse and back you will be able to work out what the switch is doing. Might just be high resistance through the switch which drags the voltage down.

If youíre no further forward by the time I get back from work Iíll have a look through the wiring diagrams and see where itís fed from and if anything else could affect it. Thatís if no one beats me to it Smile

This. ^^^^

You might also find like I have before that an LED will work but not a standard incandescent bulb.

It will likely be the reverse switch. Diesels Lives Matter.

Had this problem . The switch contact had a high resistance . Replaced it from underneath using a 22 mm spanner. A bit tight for space but not too difficult.

You can do it from underneath can you?

If you do it from inside what is it; cubby box out, seats out, carpet out, then some sort of cover off to expose the gearbox?

Is that about right?

Once again - thanks for the advice.

Had to do mine recently, similar symptoms.

Apparently you can do it from underneath, I personally took the cubby box out, took the access panel out and did it from the top. Get a 22mm open ended spanner to make like easier, shorter the better. My 90 Project : http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic52774.html

Take the gear sticks out and take the gearbox tunnel cover off, that gives you the best access. It's not difficult to remove the cover. The switch on a puma is quite a way forward compared to earlier models, just forward of the gear sticks.

Might be possible from underneath, but will be exceedingly awkward i think, and burried amongst pipes and cables.

With my Mot looming i finally got round to buying the new switch.

Got all ready to start the job when I realised it's working again!

How can this be?

Should I replace it anyway? 2007 90 Puma - Love it - Best car I have ever owned.
