Electric gremlins
Hi there!
Im on vacations rigth now in the north of Chile with the family.
Regrettably yesterday in a rougth grável road the Defender lost the speed, revs, fuel level, temperature dials etc. All dials going to 0. But the ligths works Ok

Also both electric windows doesnt work.
Defender entered in limp mode (limitando speed) and my ODB detected the code U0155 that I assume is related with the dials shutdown.
I found 2 fuses burned and I change it. Work for some minutes but again burnout.
So probably I have a shortcircuit some were

My Indi change done of the windows lift system some days ago and is my first culprit
Anyone with a similar problem?
Any thought from were I can start?

Cheers Eduardo

Which fuses blew ?

Which door had the window mechanism worked on? Drivers door ?

I suspect the issue is in the loom in the door that’s been worked on or going to that door, especially if it was the drivers door.

Door looms tend to break between the serving pillar and their respective door. Disconnecting the loom to one door at a time and seeing if the fuses then blow helps prove if door wiring is the cause.

Given you were going over a rough road where this happened it may well be that a live wire connector has come off and shorted in the door, or due to the work a wire has fractured and being bumped around is now shorting in the door.

Both driver doors were affected and fuse 9 ( ignition) blown.
I dont know why if fuse 9 go out , windows doesnt work
Rigth now i remplace the fuse and all OK (only tarmac). Windows work properly and I have all the dials working.

I move the looms Located near the firewall and the one located near the transfer and also the cable between the pillar and the door and Iwas not able to reproduce the fault. Earth was also checked and retighten.

Cheers Eduardo

Looks that I have some random shortcircuit somewere.

A soon as I enter in a rough road the fuse blown

The fuse blown was the N° 15 in the LR Electric wiring diagram.

This fuse is the responsible of the "ignition" signal for several devices

1. Instrument cluster (ignition signal)
2. unit Timer heated front screen (not installed in mine)
3. Switch heated rear screen and the respective relay
4. relay headlamp (Bypassed)
5. Relay dim dip
6. Relay window lift and the window switch
7. Also probably when LR Chile installed an ignition live from there

So, I will take out 3, 5, 6 and see from were 7 is coming

Any other thoughs?

Any other alternatibe?

So Eduardo

Problem found!
An old connection to take a ignition live from one of the electric window switch was not isolated correctly making shorcircuit with the radio case.

Cheers to all!
