Very interesting, I guess you wouldn’t want to buy an ex demonstrator then !

Currently in Austria having taken the Chunnel and driven through France and Germany. Didn’t start too well as was last in the line to board the train and couldn’t get on as they boarded a flippin Tesla in front of us and so we got sent back to wait for the next train! Told us they always put Teslas in the high carriages. I said why, is it because they catch fire?

Regretted going through Germany as the M8 was very busy and was closed at one point, leaving a tailback of miles, then multiple roadworks and lane closures caused more delays resulting in us being over two hours late at our destination. We’ll be going back through Switzerland and France.

Fixed a couple of faults. One was a rattle at the back which was the door to the warning triangle compartment, remedied by some anti rattle tape. Second was no water flow to the left hand wiper, traced to the pipe being kinked under the plastic cover at the rear of the engine bay. Easy fixes for both thankfully.

I have to say that the Defender is an amazing vehicle for such a trip. So smooth on the road and very comfortable over long distances. Cruising at 130kph is effortless and quiet, accompanied by a lovely beat of the V8 in the background. This car is growing on me by the minute.

Obviously I’m hoping my first Land Rover experience continues in the same way.

Picked her up on Wednesday. Very pleased with it I must say! Love the sound of the V8 burbling away in the background. It will take a while to get my head around all the tech features but it's fun learning.
It seems to have pretty much everything fitted that it should have. The only surprises were the absence of tail door soft close and sunglass holder, neither of which I will stress about although I did like the soft close on the demonstrator. Maybe a retro fit sometime?]

Seriously considering trading in my RRS SCV8 & 90 Puma for one of these.

Nick, are you still happy with it? How's life with a 90 considering the small boot space, etc.? --

Hi Naks

Yes, loving this car more and more, every time I drive it. It’s amazing on the road for such a big SUV but not been off road in it yet. I have done a day at the LR Experience which was great fun and a real eye opener to the off road capabilities of the Defender.

The 90 suits us well. The kids have left home so it’s mostly me and my wife driving it. We’ve done a trip to the French Alps. Again, superb on all types of road. Luggage room for two of us is fine. We usually pack the boot full then soft stuff goes on the rear seats or on the floor. I think it’s a common grumble that the rear seats don’t fold flat but not an issue for us. There’s a large space under the floor which can be accessed after lifting out the toolkit. I use this space for emergency kit and a few rarely used bits and pieces.

The Defender is a fantastic all round vehicle but the V8 was a temptation I couldn’t resist![/i]

Lovely feedback Nick, exactly the kind of ownership info I was looking for.

Like you, it's just me & the Mrs, and we mostly do weekend trips where we pack very light.

Can you confirm that the V8 does not come with a front recovery hook?

Thanks --

Only this from owner information, and I guess generic to all models?

It’s usually hidden by a big black plastic “plate” unless you have the optional bash plate that opens it up permanently. It is a long way back though which can make hooking up for a recovery a very dirty business.
