Dent removal
The atmosphere at my house was a little awkward last night to say the least after one of my wonderful sons did this to my fire pit:

The dent is around 250mm long and the wall is deformed from top to bottom. Does anyone have any knowledge of dent removal or recommendations for a kit that can handle this type of dent?

Or even recommendations for someone in the huddersfield area that would remove it for me?

Thanks 2002 110 td5

Can you get a bottle jack and a couple of pieces of wood in there. Maybe a slow approach to putting pressure on the inside of the dent.

It might pop back without the need to hit it on the inside

Hi,

I forgot to mention, it’s double skinned because it circulates air for a secondary burn so no access from inside. It is quite thin gauge stainless. Maybe around 1.5mm 2002 110 td5

Glass moving sucker and pull gently on the outside, deduct relevant amount from child's allowance / trust fund etc...

Thanks. I might have one of those laying around somewhere, as you do!

To be fair on my kid, he was probably more upset with himself than I was. He knows how much I love my fire pit 2002 110 td5

With it being stainless, it’s likely there’ll alway be evidence of a dent there, it doesn’t like being worked. As mentioned, I’d try sucker. Can you find a way to hold it so can put some force into it? 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

I’ll see what I can rig up. I’ll try putting something heavy inside it. I’ll let you know how I get on 👍 2002 110 td5

if you struggle with a sucker but you have a hot glue gun, you could try to glue something to the outside to pull it with and then use a hair drier to get the glue back off. DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS,

Perhaps having a chat with a local car bodyshop, they will be very used to pulling dents, albeit mostly on mild steel and then filling and painting. However they will have a range of suction pullers and I expect you will need a few strategically placed pullers that are simultaneously pulled to ensure the minimum of panel creasing is visible once the process is completed.

if the sucker doesn't work you might have to cut a hole in the inner skin to try the jack idea mentioned and then pop rivet a repair piece over the hole.im assuming a patch in the inner skin wont be noticed to much.

Thanks chaps. I’ll have a quick go with the sucker, but I’ll probably end up taking it somewhere for a professional to have a go at it. 2002 110 td5

I’d call the sucker technique a success in this instance. If the little creases left at either side still bug me, I might use a glue gun for a little localised tweaking.

I used to have a dent removal kit which involved something similar, you glued loads of tags onto the damaged area and then attached them to a sliding hammer, it worked reasonably well on a double skinned section of a truck cab Cheers Ian

If you can pour a little fuel in between the skins and light it, the dent should pop out…. Whistle

And I’m only suggesting a little fuel… being teaspoon amounts (5ml) Ride like you stole it!!
If I’m not on a bike it’s because only a 4x4 will do…
