Just fitted a body mount CB antenna above and right of the back door on the 110, properly earthed etc but can't get a decent SWR reading for love nor money. Checked with a meter and there is no short on the co-ax or mount so I'm baffled. Not had an issue on Defenders before.

how you powering the cb, did you run the earth to the battery ?

Double check the mount is earthed, the co-ax isn't pinched and that the PL-259 is properly secured / soldered.

Definitely no shorts anywhere, will run rig power direct to battery and see if that improves it. Andy

Hi, where have u earthed it to? Using a circuit tester, check the connection between the earth position and the battery.

Aerial mount is earthed to the body and is a good strong earth, rig is on a 12v plug to cig lighter dash socket. Andy

hmmm, the aluminium body does not always give a strong earth...

I did two things brought a better aerial and earthed the bracket to the battery. Now I can get 6 miles coverage.

Question... Is it a tuned antenna? If not you will need to do that too.

Probably better than using an old coat hanger  Steve.

Sorted, thanks for the tips.
Ran an earth from the aerial mount direct to the battery and connected the rig direct to battery too, SWR reading now around 2 which is not perfect but much better. Andy |
