Thanks Landy Andy, I've just fitted one of these and the wireless reception is soooo much better. I did need an aerial extension, which delayed the installation a bit. Here's a picture of the box fitted to the left of the CB radio:

Glad all is good Merlin.

Is that you Jim,

Are these units ok mounted outside in the elements. I have the older version and think it may need changing for a new one after a drowning in Wales.

Hi Andy

Yup, 'tis Jim !

these aren't waterproof (as you've found out), but it might be worth taking the case off and running the guts under a tap (to remove any mud, sediment etc), and leaving it to dry in an airing cupboard for a few days.

It may just work again, although if its become corroded it may not.

The above can even work with cb's but you do need to act fast to prevent any corrosion!

Thanks Jim, pleasure as always. Nice to see you on here, may be able to offer some help.

Is there a reason that a CB should be worse in the rain? Just got back from very wet Wales, and one of our group's CB was terrible whilst it was raining, but ok when not. Any ideas?

sounds like he's probably got a problem with his mount or maybe more likely : cable.

if it lets water in, it'll probably throw the swr out and performance will go down the tubes but will be ok again when it dries up.

Possibly also that the water is shorting out the inner and outer of the cable, maybe in the plug or mount somewhere.

Whichever, the problem almost certainly lies in the cable or mount.

Andy
your splitter has been posted today, first class, hopefully with you in the morning. If you're able to take some photos of it once you get it installed, i can put them on the site along with Merlins to really give people a good idea of where it can be put and how big it is etc.
I give away a £20 voucher every month for the best photos sent in : http://www.4x4cb.com/public/page.cfm?Page=651

Bob
Your kit is also on its way, sent by fedex, again will be there tomorrow - one box going to your work address. I'll PM you a tracking link so you can track its progress through Fedex's system. Again, check the link above for details of the voucher because the tti set is one i'm deffinately needing some photos of, so you've got a better chance than most of winning!

Thanks Gentlemen, any questions or problems, just ask!

Jim
