Engine Power Cutting
Hi

Is it normal for the 2.4 ddci engine to cut power to the engine when you apply the brakes and accelerator at the same time. Like if you wanted to remove some of the mud from the brakes?

I know BMW’s from the e46 model onwards do that (stops heal and toe 😢) but if you disconnect the MAF then no problem on accelerator and brake. Maybe the defender has the same, not tried heal and toeing in the defender yet 😂😂 Searching for my first Defender...and started just as Covid hit, so talk about timing.

5 months after starting the search I found it, and here is the details

Yes, entirely normal on the Puma, and in fact normal on most drive-by-wire vehicles. it's also very annoying if you need to dry the brakes, or keep them dry when fording by keeping light pressure on the pedal.

(It is also a subject I have vented about several times before on this forum!)

You can heel/toe in a Puma - standard daily practice. It's a driveline preservation technique as much as a performance technique.

So good to know it’s possible, I know it’s good for the power train etc just on more modern cars I normally hit an issue when you press the brake pedal the accelerator basically is useless. Searching for my first Defender...and started just as Covid hit, so talk about timing.

Funny I thought the car was broken........this is the third 2.4 Puma that I have had and had not noticed any issue on the previous two Pumas. Very Happy 1995 300tdi Defender 90 P/UP
