Brilliant. You must be one of the first, and if they’ve started allocating, hopefully the rest of us will soon follow.

Carpathian 90 for me too. Bigger screen and tracker pro.

If you haven’t added the tracker pro, might be worth taking a look at it, or else exploring alternative trackers. The total cost of the LR one is pretty much the same as alternatives, and without something fitted you may find car insurance harder to get and/or more expensive.

Hi,

Even LR Insurance admitted they wouldn’t have insured our 90 HSE without STP being fitted.

And that’s in rural Somerset too!

Does 'Land Rover Insurance' (cant remember the actual name of the Broker} still write in bold lettering 'No Off Road Use' without actually explaining what off road is for the uninitiated?

Made me smile when i saw that once on one of my wife's past policies with them....the irony of owning an off road vehicle and to have Land Rover Insurance tell you you cant use it as such..... Rolling with laughter

Interesting, I always assumed that was one of the selling points of LR insurance and the reason they were more expensive than other insurance companies.

My insurance just states no off road events. 24MY 90 D250 HSE, Tasman Blue

This chap has some views on the system:

"Horse Censored . Utter horse Censored . They disabled the tracker within three minutes of nicking the car. Alarm, immobiliser, tracker all useless. If insurance pay up I’ll still take a fifteen grand bath and be pretty much uninsurable thereafter. Secure tracker MY HAIRY ARSE."

Supacat,

That’s Secure Tracker not Secure Tracker Pro.

The Pro has the additional chip in the remote.

If the car is started without detecting it, it triggers an alert.

If you use Guardian Mode as well, it alerts as soon as the door is opened.

I had a tracker installed on a Range Rover Sport several years ago. I probably won't bother again.

That tracker also would disable the app if I reported it missing (I'm guessing to stop me trying to go and find it) and it made no difference to my insurance premium.

I've decided prevention is better - key in a faraday pouch, car parked out of sight with CCTV as a deterrent. And I might consider a Autowatch Ghost.

Plus, the standard app tells you its location but won't disable if it thinks it's stolen.

But there are much more expensive/desirable cars than a Defender, so I'm not too worried.

My insurance insist on Tracker for Range Rover. They tend to call pretty quick if I forget the tab. But as others say, today they know where they are installed and disable very fast. Fingerprint or iris technology should be used.

Just put a sticker on the window saying "Be aware Poisonous snakes being carried Do not enter without assistance "

My mate just puts a blue light on his when he leaves it.

I think perhaps this is missing the point a little.

I wouldn’t buy the tracker unless there was reason to. Yes, a car thief may disable it. Yes, the car may be gone permanently. And yes, the app may stop you tracking the car once it’s been stolen. But on that last point, since I’m not intending to track down the criminal scum and wrestle my car from their grasp (I don’t have a very particular set of skills, I won’t find them, and I won’t kill them), and I therefore don’t need to see that it’s ended up on a tragic estate in some grotty little town. If it goes, it goes. I always take out the remarkably cheap gap insurance available on the internet after the first year (never from the dealer!) so I won’t lose out financially.

No, the point I was making, and the reason for suggesting adding the tracker, is that it makes the car more insurable and reduces the premium. In my own case, that reduced premium has paid for the full three year cost of LR tracker pro in just one year for my RRS and also now for my Discovery. It will do the same for the Defender.
