Gearbox Trouble???
I've just replaced both swivel joints and bearings on the 110 along with the drive members. Test drive went perfectly.
5 minutes from home a loud whirring noise started from underneath the seatbox, i wasn't sure if it was the prop or gearbox. Got home, put it in reverse, foot off the clutch and a bang. I thought it had jumped out so I re-engaged and tried again. This time, pretty horrific metal on metal noises, banging and juddering. Going forwards in first, not so bad but not a lot of drive.
This morning after an inspection I've noticed a UJ on the rear prop is destroyed.
The truck will move forwards in first with a bit of noise, in reverse its banging, juddering and actually siezed up.
I knocked it out of gear and still with my foot on the clutch it wouldn't push back. Knocked it in to first, then out and then it will push back.
Any ideas please folks?
I hope the above reads okay...

I think you've answered your own question, though by the sound of it the UJ has probably damaged the prop now.

Put it in diff lock, remove rear prop. Does it drive?

I'm changing the rear prop today so I'll see if it drives in diff lock without it. Luckily I've got another gearbox sat in the workshop.
I'm pretty sure it's the box, just wondered if anyone else has had the same problem.
Thanks for the replies. Thumbs Up

Was there any play on the bearings? especially the intermediate bearings take a punishment. Or the collapse tube not set correctly? 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

Cheers Mdm, luckily I have a spare, spent Sunday afternoon cleaning it up...

It had been left standing for a month on grass while I found some time to fit new swivel housings, bearings etc. so it either had a helluva oil leak that I didn't spot or just sh** happens!

I've decided to rebuild her onto a galv chassis since I've got this far. I'll be starting a build thread to cover it.
