Malta 2012 Defender 90 Puma 2.2 CSW Santorini Black
I replaced a transfer box that ceased up due to no oil. The intermediate shaft had seized solid on the bearings and elongated the holes in the case. The Defender actually stopped because the low gear seized up, effectively having high and low engaged at the same time. I was lucky that I could drive it a bit more in neutral/low out from where we were, and could replace the transfer box on on the Italian Alpine mountains. Was a lot of fun especially when fingers went numb from the cold.

Bottom line, failure was very different from what is reported on this thread. Gears turned black, but no chipped teeth. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing
