Thats only if you sell it in auction format. Doesn't apply if you put it up as a Classified ad, then it's just the flat fee to list it, same as autotrader do it. |

l wouldn't bother with Ebay, Autotrader is more sensible price wise for Defenders. lf you look at "completed items" on Ebay the expensive ones rarely if ever show as sold.
Unless they are truly special, such as the 24,000 mile 110 TD5 and the 10,000 mile 90 TD5 that sold in the Summer for over £20,000 Dealer prices will be at least £2,000 more than private sales. What about a TDCi ? Prices are dropping below £20,000 for good XS Station Wagons and if you get a good one they make a better daily driver than a TD5. The heater is a lot better for a start, and it's better on the motorway being a 6 speed transmission. Also it seems easier to find nice ones than TD5's. |

l've seen those, they don't sell, one of them belongs to a customer of mine who has biffed it up on Ebay at over £40,000 just to see if anybody bites.
The trouble is, it skews the market, as it makes everyone else think theirs is worth the same, and before you know it there's five more at similar money. l've tried to tell him this but he thinks it's a good thing as it will make his "worth more" Best to steer clear of Ebay. Sadly l can see a situation where these vehicles become "classic" and are all squirrelled away in barns to "appreciate". Hopefully this won't happen. Look at "completed listings" on Ebay to find out what has actually sold. Some of the silly money ones have been relisted many times. Having said that, the best TD5 SW and XS have been £15-20,000 for years, l sold our 45,000 mile 2006 90 CSW to a dealer for £15,000 back in 2014. He sold it quickly for £17,500 |

i really do recon some have been bought cheap, and then had a quick make over and then priced up daft. The two vans look like basic spec that have had a few quid spent on them, and then priced up daft. For 40k you can have two defenders of any range, practically. TDCi seem to be the cheaper option at the moment. As with all Defenders, you can get good and bad ones.
l've had a 2008 TDCi XS 90 SW on loan for a few days from my local dealer while mine was in for work. lt's actually really nice, drives really well, it's had a mild remap and has done 82,000 lt's on sale at £18,000. The body is unmarked, interior similar, it's changed my opinion of the TDCi lt's got a much better heater, it's quieter on the motorway, and it rides better. Negatives? Because the interior is more car like you tend to expect it to be like a car, but it's still a Defender. Only two bulky seats in the back (90) No vent flaps (very sad) High road tax on some versions/years |

Lightning, do you know where it is advertised? I'm trying to find a Landie but have been struggling to find a good one. Either dealers are asking crazy money or private ones have been modded to hell. Trying to find an honest, original car is turning out to be much harder than I expected. I've got my heart set on a TD5 but would also consider a Puma (much to the wife's preference too).

My neighbour just paid £11800 for a 52 plate TD5 90XS SW in Java Black. 230K miles and largely original except for sawtooth alloys. Without a detailed inspection the general condition looks to be good for the age & mileage.

The TDCi 90 l had on loan last
week has been sold. Bizarrely l had my pristine 2005 TD5 XS SW on sale a couple of months ago at £18,000 and got no enquires at all. l assume people would rather buy from a dealer, as l sold it to my local dealer for £17,000 and they sold it quickly at £20,000. At the time l could see similar models being advertised in Ebay at £20,000 and more, so was surprised that mine generated no interest. l advertised it in the "for sale" section of this forum at £18,995 as well, and got told that it was a bit high on the price, so dropped it to £18,000 Sadly l needed to sell it due to needing the money for my business, so it went to a dealer in the end. Most dealers that l called offered £15,000. The £17,000 was from my local dealer who knew the vehicle. |

Yeah when me and my dad looked for my 1st one, we saw some right old sheds, the one i ended up buying was the best out of the 5 in budget. Laugh was we walked straight passed her, and went to look at a low mileage one, and what a shed it was! The paint work was so tatty you thought it been done over with paint stripper. For the replacement, i did look at the early pumas, but the road tax was too much, and not to mention i could pick up an earlier TD5 with half the tax. They really did make the defender more posher later on in life, which is nice. prices are interesting, I have put my reg in we buy any car a few times over the years and the price has progressively got higher. I paid 24k new 9.5 years ago and they are offering 29k (clearly if I turned up with it they would probably offer less)
conversely my 120i bmw that I paid 19.5k for at 1 year old is now worth 11k to WBAC at nearly 4 years old this would suggest Old shape defenders are still holding up well DEFENDER 90 TDCI XS, I hope everyone is well and your land rovers make you happy |
