Yeah, although I would not have spent any stupid money on the dim dip voltage regulator. I just think that the dip dip looks nice. Mind you, I once had a fine (which contested and won) because the law enforcement noticed a broken bulb in one if the side lights. So with the dip dim it should not happen again. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing

Yes, the chassis is in very good condition. It was constantly being oiled by the 19J
Only surface rust in some areas that needed cleaning. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing 2012 90 CSW, 2.2TDCI, Santorini Black |

You just got to love the self oiling system on the land rovers

Got some etch primer applied, and then a coat of undercoating black.

Owe, btw, I am trying to get the chassis paint to be as good as possible so that the self oiling system would not be required any more

A lot of hard work there, but it must be hugely satisfying to know the chassis is ready for many many years of use.
Well done, looking good |

Thank you for the positive comments. Yes, indeed, a lot of hours are going into it. Given the life it had and the projected new life I plan ahead for it, I trust it will outlast me. Most of the damage it had is UV damage from the baking sun where it lives. Rust had not been a major issue except on the doors, perhaps need to say ‘as expected’

Just wondering if you've treated inside the chassis in anyway? James

The inside of the chassis was treated long time ago with waxoil.
Areas were did not see dust or mud thrown at it, the waxoil is still intact. Example I was pleasantly surprised with how good and clean the waxoil is when I pulled the grommet on the chassis where the cable harness go through. Other areas, like inside bulkhead outrigger looked a bit dry. I plan to re oil it, but of course once all the painting is done. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing 2012 90 CSW, 2.2TDCI, Santorini Black |

Great, I assumed you had a plan for it but didn't think I'd seen it mentioned.

Right, right.. I will plan it. Although it is also claimed that there are 300 days/year of sunshine where it lives, so probably I will also not mind keeping it in the garage for 56 days a year

You're very lucky! Our UK Defenders tend to just rot with our 56 days of sunshine!
What are LR values like in Malta (you are in Malta?)? Being right hand drive and very rust free it seems it could be a good place to source? Not wanting to detract from your awesome restoration thread but I'd be interested to hear a little more about LR life in your country, share some photos, any good off-road driving, events etc MY2012 110 2.2TDCi XS SW Orkney Grey - http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic43410.html MY1990 110 200TDi SW beautifully faded Portofino Red - https://www.defender2.net/forum/post743641.html#743641 MY1984 90 V8 Slate Grey - https://www.defender2.net/forum/post744557.html#744557 Instagram @suffolk_rovers |
