Alternative side lights and indicators non LED
The rear stop/tail light and indicator covers look as if they have been sand blasted and are a lighter shade . This is the second pair that it has happened to and it has been noted on the MOT. I'm now looking for replacements, having looked on line the cheapest option is get the same again but have thought for sometime that it would be a good idea to swap the lights for a similar pattern to the NAS style fog and reversing lights.

Now for the question.

Is it possible to purchase non LED NAS style lights using the standard bulbs for the front and rear to replace the whole set.? Don't make old people mad.

Yes, in fact the NAS vehicles did not use LEDs, they used the standard bulbs and holders.

Filament indicators, but LED stop/tail.

I went LED for the stop/tail for the quicker response time, and also because they fit using the SVX bases.

Filament stop/tail would need bodywork cutting out to clear the lamp body, as you have to move it in and down from the body edge compared to the original lamp. With LED the body is smaller so no body mods are needed.

On the front I believe you can buy aftermarket stepped plinths to allow the NAS filament lamps to fit the headlamp surrounds.  1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

I don't remember doing any bodywork mods to fit mine (it was years ago). Until recently these were all filament bulbs, however recently I fitted LED bulbs in the same holders for the brake/tail light bulbs only, after fitting similar in the sidelights, mainly because I have been so impressed with the LED bulbs from Classic Car LEDs.

If you don’t mind the stop/tail overhanging the edge of the body then you don’t need to open up the hole for the lamp.  1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

I felt it was consistent with original build tolerances! Rolling with laughter

Thanks for the replies/guidance. I always thought mistakenly that the NAS lights were LED. I have a spare plinth so I will check the clearance.

The reason I don't want to fit LED lamps is I understand that it causes problems with towing caravans fitted with filament bulbs. Don't make old people mad.

That’s really only an issue with cars with body controllers and bulb failure detection - and again only really with the indicators.

I went filament indicator as I wasn’t a fan of the snap on/off of LED indicators and I didn’t want to faff with an aftermarket flasher unit.

But as above I went LED stop/tail for neatness of fit and the quicker response time.  1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

NAS lights are excellent Cool

Like Martin, I've now got LED stop/tail lights for the quicker response time. I can recommend the Perie ones.

I'll also swap the indicators in due course but I plan to fit load resistors rather than faff around with an adjustable relay. Darren

If you are buying incandescent NAS lamps get proper original L E Perei brand lamps. They are streets ahead of their Wipac copies.

Sory if this is a stupid question.

I recently bought these with the help of you chaps on here and they are spot on.

Will these same LED bulbs be OK to go as a straight swap for the rear brake/stop lights too? I have the standard red lenses on at the moment.

Cheers (again!)

No, those are just for side lights.

For a dual filament stop/tail light, you'll need something like these:

Ditto on the use of stop/tail from Classic Car LEDs in NAS fittings for response time. I'm also using their "bulbs" for the fog and reversing lights.
