I needed something to stand on the front drive, where the ex-wife's car used to be.

I've been an LR owner continuously for over 50 years.

I could afford to buy a Pretender but am totally unimpressed by it, especially the looks.

So I've just bought my own smaller version of it - for five hundred quid.

Eighteen years old and barely a drop of rust on it.

Done 152K , doesn't leak, drip or rattle.

TD4, starts first turn. Bung it in auto and it does the rest.

So to answer the OP, no I don't care about the new Defender.

I'm just feeling a tad guilty about rubbishing Freelanders all these years..... Embarassed

I think I’d quite like one in a few years Embarassed

We have a growing family, we have recently sold a TD5 90 and a L322 TDV8 both were amazing and actually really reliable over the 4 and 5 years we owned them. I really wanted a D4 but the other half wanted a L405 which is what we have now compared to the L322 it’s not a huge step forwards IMO.. it’s nice in many ways but also less practical in so many ways!

We had to cut the stuff we carried in the boot and have to fold a rear seat to fit the dog cage and pushchair in something we never had to do in the L322 it’s obvious why because it’s make the car look better but ultimately it’s a pain and the reason I would seriously consider the new Defender Safe, Capable and Practical. Shame they are worth more than our Autobiography!

Don’t feel guilty Slidey I had a 52 plate Freelander Td4 years ago it was my daily drive and was completely faultless. My son recently bought a 56 plate HSE, one owner with low miles, he loves it and as you say can be picked up for peanuts Thumbs Up

Yep I had a TD4 3dr pre facelift freelander before I got the Defender. And whilst I love the Defender and wouldn't sell it (unless for another) I'd love to get a FL2 again. However I got back into a friends FL1 for the first time since selling mine, and by christ the driving position is wierd compared to a defender!

It does make you wonder to how much money would have been left in the pot if the car industry had not wasted an absolute fortune on electric and self driving car projects.

I find it hard to believe that there is anyone that would now touch JLR, except to asset strip it.

It would be great is PSA group could pick it up I think. They don’t currently have any brands in that market so would fit well. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

PSA have recently signed up for a merger with FCA.
Either Jeep or Landrover would be worried at the prospect of ending up in the same group. Shocked

@Tim in Scotland.... Well Tata have already junked the Censored ingenium engine and fitted Fiat units to their products in India as the ingenium units where causing too many warranty issues.... Don't be too quick to write the Fiat units off either... They are highly regarded in the trade... (OK you do get the rest of the car for free and it shows)... However, I've two friends who've now covered interstellar mileage in their Alfa JTDm units... one did 350000 miles until the rest of the car gave up and the other did 295000 before they got bored of it.... Which isn't bad when you consider one had it mapped to nigh on 200Bhp and the other was a 170bhp unit (std).... Yes a few TDI 200/300 and few TD5's will get similar mileage... However, JLR are replacing 1000 engines a month under warranty... So how good is their current unit in comparison?...By the looks of it... Not very...

Regards

Tim.... Also in Scotland It doesn't matter how bad it is, It can always get worse...

Will the "New Defender" become the Mini Metro of it's time?... Tell someone you love them today because life is short.
But shout it at them in German because life is also terrifying and confusing...

1000 engines a month! Which units are the main culprits? WARNING.
