SOS puma 2.4 won’t start in outback
2008 tdci 2.4 puma auto won’t start.
Stopped at fuel station and refilled, on starting, nothing happened.
Eventually, it would turn over briefly, but not start. No power to starter. Turn everything off, wait (relay clicks off), the same happens. Have shorted starter relay, starter work’s continuously, shorted the main power relay, same thing happens.
Is there something in the ecu that’s shutting down.
BAS scan tool locked “P068A engine control module relay de energised early”
Had just come out of the desert with very corrugated roads, maybe something has worked itself loose.
Not sure where to go now
Any advise appreciated.

Are battery terminals tight? Check all Relays are secure and not loose.
Check battery Ground is not loose and if you have torx bits check IPAC. instrument cluster plug is secure to the rear.

If battery has been disconnected, make sure you press alarm fob multiple times fast until locked or unlocked as this re-syncs the system otherwise the immobiliser will cut the engine after turning over.
Also press unlock just before you go to turn her over as that should ensure no immobiliser interpherence, make sure the fob is with the key too.

Hope that helps, abs some things I would try. Thumbs Up

I'm no expert on no-start issues but this might offer a good starting point https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic59938.html > 110 XS Double Cab

The first thing I would check is that the main and starter relays (under the seat) both have really secure connections, loose connections on these is a very common Puma problem.

The second thing I would try, if the first didn't solve the problem, is disable the passive immobiliser and see if that makes a difference. The PI is not particularly robust and can cause all manner of issues.

I’ve enlisted the help of Pete Bell to sort out, what appears to be an immobiliser issue. Watch this space

Turned out to be an immobiliser problem. Pete sent me a new map which by passes the immobiliser and hey presto, started straight up. Should never happen again.

I bet it was actually the instrument pack socket issue not letting the immobiliser signal through to the ECU. You mention rough roads just before the problem.  1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

The immobiliser on my 2.4 scares the bejesus out of me. I am even too sacred to disconnect the battery. Mines a daily driver and I park in public parking so I cant be fanning around with this. Is there a mod that I can do before I have a problem? (I don't know Pete)

Pete Bell from Bell Auto Services (BAS). Google his web site. Bit of a guru with Land Rover remapping

Look for a burned fuse on door lock position in the fuse box

Disconnect the doorlock loom of both second row doors. L and R in the pillar next to the seat, near the floor is a hole in the pillar.
Replace the fuse
Try to start the engine

Just one thing too. In Australia, some service stations have some sort of wireless connection ( I think it was for the pump readings but not sure) but this interferes with the immobilizer on the PUMA's. You'll notice the red LED on the dash flash oddly.
Can be fixed by pushing the defender round the corner!
