Alarm sounding when starting, after periods of inactivty
Hello

Looking for some advice. I have a 2011 Tdci 90 with a dual odyssey battery system and a relay switch. The Defender does not get as much use as it should at the moment so can sit idle, without being started for a week or more at a time. When I do come to start it, and turn the ignition, an alarm sounds until it turns over. It is not the noisy alarm, it is a more high pitched sound which is not too loud. I would hope it is not battery related as I thought the odyssey PC1500s were amongst the best, and are only a few years old.

Cheers

When you turn over the engine the battery voltage drops so the alarm sounds as it thinks the battery has been disconnected.

Main battery must be losing charge - keep it topped or replace,

Cheers kmac.

Taking it out on an extended run tomorrow so will give it a decent charge. Will then turn over daily and see if the it is losing charge relatively quickly or just when left for long periods if time.

I had a similar issue and after lots of head scratching found a bad bulb causing a short and draining the battery quicker than normal, bulb fixed and no more problems still running fine on the same odyssey pc1500 5 years later

Any tips for getting to the bottom of what was causing the battery drain?

For your info

If you talk to Oddesy they will tell you to, at least once a year take the out of the system and give them a full bench charge with a quality charger such as a ctek charger.

It certainly helped mine when I did what was recommended

Andydef90 - Both batteries are about 4 years old.
landyandy - will look at getting both of them charged up.

I have two Defender 2.2. One used every day, the other once a week at best. Both turnover quickly and start immediately. I get a alarm, often on both, sounds like a bird whistling ( no birds were harmed in the writing of this thread) is this the alarm to which you refer as I’ve often wondered what it is.

The hard way - remove all fuses and start putting them back one by one whilst measuring if there is any draw on the batter

Hmmm, using the tool seems to be a less laborious option.

Kind of lost track of time. Battery or batteries do need a charge. Any suggestions for a charger and whether it can be done in situ or better to remove them and charge indepently?

Have a search for CTEK on here will find you a range of options; including some of the best kit for charging insitu.
