Where to Buy Original Wipac Crystals?
Hi All!

I've decided to replace my QuadOptics headlights as they became a fishbowl for a few weeks when my Defender drowned and there seems to be permanent stains inside the reflector and lenses. Since whole LED assemblies are still out of my price range, I decided to go the Wipac Crystals route. After doing some research, there are many installation posts and photos but no indication of where to buy them. Sad Can anyone point me the right direction on where I can buy honest to goodness Wipac Crystals and not some other looks like brand?

Are there Wipac Crystal assemblies without the position light or are they only available with the position light? I would prefer the assemblies without the position lights as I have the standard look and not the SVX look.

I have the Landreiziger loom but I think the electrician I asked to install it on my behalf wired it to take feed from the battery and not the alternator as indicated in the instructions Mad Is there a difference in the performance if it was done this way as compared to how it's actually supposed to be done? If so, I may have to buy another kit and have a more trusted electrician re-do the wiring to get things done properly.

Thanks in advance for your input and advice. Thumbs Up

Ypu should be able to buy these from any number of online suppliers as well as over the counter. When I bought mine I got them at my local supplier, Keith Gott in Alton, Hampshire - they have a website & trade worldwide.

Be careful. I bought what were supposedly genuine Wipac and arrived with tape covering the sidelight bulb holder. I eventually got what I wanted from Bolt on bits.

No problem.with this at all, and in many ways it is better than connecting to the alternator (something I personally wouldn't do). I suspect that the loom maker opted for the alternator because it is nearer and easier to get to, meaning a shorter cable can be supplied.

The loom would have had to extended to wire it from the battery, as no way it will reach in standard form. It should be fine as long as the extension has been done properly with correct gauge wire it will be fine. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

What's the reason for that?
Eric You never actually own a Defender. You merely look after it for the next generation.

Hi All!

I took a look at the Bolt on Bits site and they do have Wipac Crystals with no side lights. Upon reading the description, they say the "crystal" lens is polycarbonate and not glass? Is this the same headlight assemblies we're talking about?

Thanks.

In my (OCD electrical) mind... neatness.... keep all the feeds in one place (battery box), and the fuses there also, instead of having feeds here there and everywhere and fuses all over the place.

Yes, that's right. 'Crystal' headlights work on a different principle whereby the beam pattern is determined by the reflector rather than the lens. Darren

Reading this topic has me a little confused. I was thinking of fitting Wipac Crystals to my Defender so was looking at some YouTube content. From what I’ve seen they seem to be “plug and play” ie remove the old unit and replace with the crystal unit. However I’ve noticed that people have mentioned a new wiring loom and relay from the battery and bypassing the alternator?
What am I missing here, can someone explain the whys and wherefores ?
