Out of curiosity why do you think they are better? Is it just personal aesthetics or performance? Or both. Diesel$ Live$ Matter. β›½οΈπŸ›’οΈπŸ‘¨β€πŸ”§πŸ§°βš™οΈ RED, WHITE & BOOST! πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§

It's performance, these just don't seem to light the road up in front as the others did, these seem to light up the road, right in front of Millie which is a waste of time as when you are sitting/driving they are lighting up the road just in front off the bonnet Rolling Eyes even the high beam does not go as far either, so i'm thinking that it must be the way they make the bulbs Sad

I have had them checked by a MOT guy on his machine Neutral 1996 Golf Blue 300Tdi 110 Pick up. Keeper.

Could be they are often changing things like that. Dipped will be as you know aimed using the MOT machines etc to prevent dazzle to other drivers.
The full beam shouldn't be though, that should put out light long distance.

Does Millie have static (manual.) head light adjustment like mine or electric adjustment on dash switch?
If it's static, I'd be inclined to think they may be adjusting them on the lower side to account for the rear bed load.
Due to the body style Millie is, they may do that as the increased load would direct the headlight upwards as the rear would go down.

Just a possibility I'm wondering.
Mine are quite similar but being LED they have a sharper beam cut off anyway but all the same they do seem to be aimed lower than they used to be even on mine.

Again, it depends on load though. I think with no electronic headlight angle control they tend to aim lower.
So that when you carry a load the headlight beam is not skyward.

You can always fit these things, but there is a bit of work involved but if it really is the headlight performance it's self then that's the option.
I presume the voltage at the headlight connectors is as expected and pretty good? Diesel$ Live$ Matter. β›½οΈπŸ›’οΈπŸ‘¨β€πŸ”§πŸ§°βš™οΈ RED, WHITE & BOOST! πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§

How odd, my crystals are so so much better than the old quadoptics, with much better throw and width.

I suspect the problem may not be YOUR lights, but those of everyone else!
Unfortunately, with so many cars now running HID and LED headlamps which are very bright, your eyes are adjusting to suit the higher overall brightness. This means that your lights appear to be dimmer than they actually are.
I am having the same problem, with no other traffic my lights are more than ok, but in traffic they appear to be poor.
I am now trying some Osram night breaker +150 bulbs, in Hella lamp units, I do not want to go down the LED light route, and LED bulbs are supposedly illegal for road use.

LED approved units aren’t illegal though.
But fixtures affixed to incandescent reflectors are though.

It hasn’t been unknown for it to be poor voltage at the headlight plugs before, or significant voltage drop when under load which makes it more tricky to check. Diesel$ Live$ Matter. β›½οΈπŸ›’οΈπŸ‘¨β€πŸ”§πŸ§°βš™οΈ RED, WHITE & BOOST! πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§

So am I but not everyone does...

It also depends if the alternator is in good knick and performance.
And if no Relay loom, the light switch and various other wiring in the factory loom it’s self.
Even down to a poor ground. Diesel$ Live$ Matter. β›½οΈπŸ›’οΈπŸ‘¨β€πŸ”§πŸ§°βš™οΈ RED, WHITE & BOOST! πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§

I know what you guys are saying and it just seems that the lights/bulbs don't throw the beam forward enough like they use to Rolling Eyes

Mo Murphy-- I know the crystals are a brighter/whiter light but i don't like the cut off from the light to the dark Rolling Eyes 1996 Golf Blue 300Tdi 110 Pick up. Keeper.
